When the Toronto Blue Jays gave $2 million as signing bonus to Daniel Norris in 2011, the top MLB pitching prospect bought himself a 1978 Volkswagen Westfalia, nicknamed Shaggy. Many were surprised as usually professional athletes spend on lavish homes, luxury cars and flaunt exorbitant brands. He surprised people further by calling it home! Yes, you read it right – Daniel spends his off-season driving, cooking, camping, and surfing with no one but the van by his side.
Says Daniel, 21: “I do it to be alone and to find peace within myself. I love my teammates and family but I’m not the kind of person who likes to be around a ton of people. I’m a thinker; I like to be alone with my thoughts. When I’m out there, it’s just me, Shaggy, and God, and I can really connect with myself. It’s very peaceful”.
Daniel is touted by MLB analysts as one of the best prospects in the game. Despite this fame and applaud, he remains humble, lives in the moment, and chooses to search for peace in solitude. “I like to explore so sometimes I’ll just stop at the side of the road and look around. There’s no plan involved,” he adds.
“I love the outdoors. I grew up in the outdoors and that’s why I love it. I’m passionate about it – being able to be with the environment and having a relationship with it on a personal level, because you’re living in it. My dad’s had [the mountain bike shop] for 35 years. His dad had it before him. I’ve been mountain biking my whole life. I’ve been hiking my whole life,” he explains.
So what do other people think of him? “Almost all of my teammates think I’m the weirdest guy in the world. Most people [in baseball] think I’m pretty far out,” Norris admits.

Frequently asked, “what’s your dream home?” – I’ve got my dream home. This van is a lot more than 4 wheels to me. Location tho? North shore

I rely on adventure to keep me alive. Bc when things go wrong on the road I’m forced to grow up & answer my own questions. #vanlife

why tf is this on anon?
Hes living off the grid and not following the norm. Maybe this site aint for you . You apparently dont get it at all.
Because Anonymous stands for an idea, and part of that idea is to strive for a future which is no longer controlled by money or greed. It is for this very reason that this article has been posted and if you do not understand how it pertains to what Anonymous is about then I seriously question why you are on anon.
What an inspiration.
The world needs more people like him.
a-lot more.
Far out.
I think he might be an idiot. You know, like Forest Gump when he went on his tour. Got the same beard though
“Momma always said, ‘stupid is as stupid does.” Forrest Gump wasn’t an idiot. Idiot. ^_^
I was thinkin to do the same because accommodation prices are ridiculous high, and who profits the most? Bankers! Mother Earth is for every human equally so we all would deserve a few sq meters of free land! Fair enough to pay something decent because luxury (electricity, running water, shower, toilet etc.) but FFS they are screwing us big time
He sounds really cool, Id would do the same if I could, I live by the sea and I like being alone and exploring (plus we have the same name ie Daniel and Daniela ) so in a weird way, I king of get him , he just sounds like an outdoorsy type who enjoys exercise and endorphins and that kind of stuff, I read a lot as well (you have to balance with physical with the intellectual)
ps I forgot to say: he sounds spiritual, which is awesome, having nice things means having a comfie life but it doesn’t mean you will be happy, a lot of rich people are unhappy and you get people with nothing like Monks who are really content so yeah, Id probably be the latter, he sounds like the latter even though he has potential to make shedloads of money
