The US House of Representatives recently voted unanimously, 393-0, to declare the obvious: that ISIS is comitting genocide against Christians and minorities in Syria and Iraq. The declaration does little for those who have already suffered at the hands of ISIS, and is ironic considering the origins of the terror group.
“What is happening in Iraq and Syria is a deliberate, systematic targeting of religious and ethnic minorities. Today, the House unanimously voted to call ISIS’s atrocities what they are: a genocide. We also will continue to offer our prayers for the persecuted,” House Speaker Paul Ryan said.
The Washington Institute provided one of the first glimpses into the group’s origins in 2013. The analysis pointed out that the Islamic State had originally evolved from an al-Qaeda splinter group in Iraq – the AQI or Al Qaeda in Iraq. It should be noted that there was no burgeoning al-Qaeda presence in Iraq until the US uprooted Saddam Hussein.
The Institute notes that the reason for its success has been the weakness wrecked upon Syria, by its “civil war.” Now, who caused the instability in Syria?
Wikileaks released a leaked cable written by US diplomat, to the US embassy in Syria William Roebuck, awhile back, showing that the US planned to remove Assad by inciting strife and playing on sectarian issues, such as “Sunni fears of Iranian Influence”- at a time when the US was dealing with the well-understood consequences of sectarian bloodshed in Iraq.
“We believe Bashar’s weaknesses are in how he chooses to react to looming issues both perceived and real, such as… the potential threat to the regime from the increasing presence of transiting Islamist extremists,” writes the diplomat.
Even with the weakness in Syria, terrorists still need to get their arms from somewhere. Well, if Judicial Watch’s documents (obtained via federal law suit from the Pentagon) are to be believed, extremist groups asked, and the US provided – the US foresaw the rise of groups like ISIS and sponsored them anyway in order to “isolate” Assad and rollback “Shia expansion.”
If you prefer a more… “mainstream” source for this information, check out what news presenter Ben Swann had to say on WGCL Atlanta late last year:
He refers to Judicial Watch’s leaked documents, noting that the West was well aware of the causes of Syria’s “civil” war; that extremists were by and large the biggest driving force for insurgency and that the West, Gulf nations and Turkey would support them against the regime which was supported by Russia, China and Iran.
“So to be clear, our Department of Defense in 2012 stated that the Russians, Chinese and Iran were supporting the Assad regime, and that the United States and Gulf Partners like Qatar and Saudi Arabia were supporting the opposition to Bashir al-Assad… but the DOD also made it clear that the major forces driving that opposition were the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaeda in Iraq (Note: AQI, now known as ISIS, is the very group that was giving the US so much “trouble in Iraq!) and something called the Salafist,” said Swann, in what is the closest we’ll ever get to a mainstream media admission; that the US government was entirely to blame for the events as they unfold in Syria.
He goes on to note that ISIS draws much of its fundamentalist ideals from Salafism (Wahhabi is the same as Salafi, though Salafi appears to be the preferred term used by the group to describe itself).
“Opposition forces, the United States… they wanted a Salafist or fundamentalist Islamic group to take over Eastern Syria in order to isolate and overthrow the Syrian president… three years later, Assad is still in power and the most violent, radical terror group in the modern world is entrenched in parts of Syria and Iraq while exporting terror to Europe…
Why would we as the American public believe any politician who claims that they have a plan for what to do about ISIS, when not ONE leader has ever acknowledged our role in the creation of that very problem.”
Why indeed?
The US government had a clear role in the creation of ISIS, which makes its declaration that the organisation commits genocide, all the more disturbing.
If ISIS is indeed genocidal, what does that make the government that helped create them, one that had the full knowledge that they would turn out that way?
