Robert Downey Jr., the ‘Iron Man’ of Iron Man and Avengers movies, delivered a 3D-printed prosthetic arm to Alex, a 7-year-old born without his right arm. The arm cost just $350, making it far cheaper than the conventional electronic prosthetics that cost $40,000.
Downey Jr. teamed with Albert Manero, a Fulbright scholar and doctoral student in mechanical engineering at the University of Central Florida. Manero uses new technology like 3D-printing to create cheap, electronic bionic limbs and donates them to kids around the world through his non-profit venture Limbitless Solutions.
