A nameless hero within the US intelligence community has liberated a stash of classified intelligence documents to The Intercept.
These documents reveal the true nature of the American aerial automated murder program.
Documents, analysis, slides and other visuals were released by the intercept in The Drone Papers.
One stunning figure stands out from the analysis: “nearly 90 percent of people killed in airstrikes were not the intended targets”, or only 1 of the 10 killed were actually being accused of some sort of crime by the US govt. The rest were innocent “collateral damage”.
Drones have been a favorite tool for Obama, one that brought no US soldiers home in caskets. The program was supposed to be precise, closely monitored and strictly regulated. However, these papers have proven such claims false.
Drones could strike outside of “declared” war zones with impunity, up until 2013 at the least: “it was not until May 2013 the White House released a set of standards and procedures for conducting such strikes.”
The so-called precision strikes were often made on very un-precise intel such as cell phones and emails. Such tactics “require an enormous amount of faith in the technology that you’re using”, or in other words… you had to believe that the lies they fed you were true when you hit the execution button… and since you never see the actual people you kill, you never feel anything but that burst of “patriotism” from killing a “terrorist”:
“It’s stunning the number of instances when selectors are misattributed to certain people. And it isn’t until several months or years later that you all of a sudden realize that the entire time you thought you were going after this really hot target, you wind up realizing it was his mother’s phone the whole time,” the intelligence whistleblower told The Intercept.
“This outrageous explosion of watchlisting — of monitoring people and racking and stacking them on lists, assigning them numbers, assigning them ‘baseball cards,’ assigning them death sentences without notice, on a worldwide battlefield — it was, from the very first instance, wrong.”
The US government is also deliberately labeling EVERY person killed in a drone strike as enemy combatants- despite the fact that there is no way to know this for sure, and in the vast majority of cases where civilians are killed, this lowers their civilian kills while falsely inflating their “enemy combatant” kills. I’m sure every person killed in those 8 wedding bombings were “enemy combatants”.
Fast on the heels of Doctors Without Borders’s call for an independent investigation into the US war crime that is the hospital bombing, Amnesty International has called on the U.S. Congress to start “an immediate independent inquiry into the Obama administration’s drone strikes overseas.”
“These documents raise serious concerns about whether the USA has systematically violated international law, including by classifying unidentified people as ‘combatants’ to justify their killings,” Naureen Shah, Director of Security with Human Rights at Amnesty International USA said.

The American Civil Liberties Union has also condemned the drone program based on these documents:
The Obama administration’s lethal program desperately needs transparency and accountability because it is undermining the right to life and national security.”
“A review of the lethal force program must be transparent and include disclosure of the United States’ compliance with its legal obligations,” Hina Shamsi of the ACLU’s National Security Project said. “These eye-opening disclosures make a mockery of U.S. government claims that its lethal force operations are based on reliable intelligence and limited to lawful targets.”
From Bush to Nobel-Prize-Winning Obama, US policy towards brown people has been the same: they’re all terrorists, kill them however you will (I laugh whenever they accuse Russia of hitting civilians when targeting ISIS). Unless this changes, monstrosities like ISIS that are borne from injustice will be but the beginning of the US’s… no, the WORLD’s problems.
