Ohio Officer slams Civilian into wall for Drinking…Coffee?

2

In Cincinnati Ohio, strolling down town while enjoying a cup of coffee is more difficult than you think; without an officer there to show signs of harassment. This time, as a middle-aged black male was enjoying his walk while drinking his coffee, when a white male officer started following him for several blocks.

The 29-year old male, Charles Harrell, was in clear violation of his constitutional freedom rights, when the officer shoved him against a wall, then to the ground, handcuffed and hauled off to jail. Charles had started recording the encounter, when the officer had asked him to stop. The officer, who was riding his bicycle, was merely attempting to make a stop for a misdemeanor violation, according to the voices heard on the video.

When the officer was finally able to get into a position to discuss the matter with Charles, the officer asked him to place his coffee and phone on the ground. Charles refused to comply, but offered to show his identification. The officer simply responded “don’t reach around,” as Charles sought out his personal wallet to show proof of identification.

Protesting his violation of freedom rights, Charles was asked to place his hands behind his back for arrest. A small scuffle ensued between the two before Charles was slammed against a wall and forced onto the ground. As the police officer shoves him against the wall, Charles phone is still actively recording the activity and audio as it fell to the ground.

Charles was in fact arrested for a pedestrian violation, resisting arrest, as well as a small amount of marijuana in possession. In today’s society, if an officer at any time has any suspicions about you, they have the right to exercise detention until you are proven innocent.

In the video posted above, Charles is strolling down the streets when the officer approached him. However, as we scan the arrest record for Charles Harrell from Hamilton County, we also find several arrest records, including armed robbery, assault, disorder conduct, criminal trespassing and possession of drugs.

Being as though police officers are able to perform an arrest based on suspicion, and given the arrest record of Charles, who was in the right? An officer attempting to protect the streets of Cincinnati, or the multi-convicted criminal?
