Charging Your Phone With Ambient Sound

18

Written by: B.C.

Have you ever had your phone battery mess up or you’ve lost your charger? Some day soon that might not be a problem. Four years ago Korean scientists attempted to charge a phone with only sound. They weren’t succesful, but with new technology and a colaborative effort between the phone company Nokia and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) have succeeded.

The way they were able to do this is with a piezoelectric effect. For example, you could charge your by ambient sound, such as cheers from a football field or chatter from a coffee shop. What they did was use zinc oxide nanowires to convert vibrations caused by sound into electricity. The researchers used zinc oxide in the form of a sheet of tiny nanorods. These nanorods bend in response to sound waves which creates mechanical stress and zinc oxide will produce electrical current when exposed to mechanical stress.

The scientists started their test by spraying liquid zinc oxide onto a plastic sheet. The sheet was placed in a mixture of other chemicals and then heared up to 90ºC (194ºF). After being heated up the zinc oxide grew into an array of nanorods. The scientists harvested the volts they generated by sandwiching the nanorod sheet between two electrical contact sheets. These contract sheets would usually be made of gold but the scientists found a way to use ordinary aluminum foil instead.

The prototype energy-harvesting device the scientists came up with was about the size of a Nokia Lumia 925. The device was capable of generating up to five volts using everyday background noise from things like traffic, music, and voices. Five volts is enough to charge a moblie phone, and is much higher than the 50 millivolts that the korean scientist came up with four years ago. QMUL’s Dr. Joe Briscoe says “Being able to keep mobile devices working for longer, or do away with batteries completely by tapping into the stray energy that is all around us is an exciting concept. We hope that we have brought this technology closer to viability.” If this new technology goes mainstream the whole way we use batterypowered machines may be changed forever!

Governmental Spyware Developer Company HACKED

4

Written by: Anon.Dos

“Phineas Fisher” also known as @GammaGroupPR, the famous parody Twitter account of the Gamma Group that specializes in FinFisher spyware, certainly knows how to snag attention. It’s very first tweet announced, “Here at Gamma International, we’ve run out of governments to sell to, so we’re opening up sales to the general public!” They certainly have an eye for stalkers.

But that’s not where it stops, then came the links to leaked FinFisher records stored in Dropbox, including product hand-out emphasizing Finfisher’s choice of monitor software and capacities, client manual with troubleshooting tips for setting up a Finspy server, value rundown, discharge notes for Finspy Mobile 4.51, and an alternate record that spells out how well the spyware does on Windows Mobile gadgets.

Wikileaks Spy Files initially discharged reports detailing Finfisher in 2011. Subject Lab research from 2012 indicated how the tricky Finfisher observation had gone versatile. The spilled archives through @gammagrouppr are the most up to date, with some dated April 2014.

Spyware, Trojan, you can call Finfisher whatever you like, however its malware intended to surreptitiously screen targets. As malware, you would trust that antivirus results would locate and block it.

Despite the fact that the Hotfix release notes for Finspypc 4.51 that discusses about OS X and Linux, since this is the Microsoft Subnet, this is what it says in regards to Windows as the target:
Here’s a sample of what it might look want to examine the information of a Finspy target, yet different screenshots indicate how an “operator” can include remarks on the “Screen Recording” for example, “MSN discussion which may demonstrate subject inclusion on the off chance that.”

Yet an alternate description from the client manual about Finspy modules guarantees that getting to document, changing files, command shell, deleted files, file access, forensic tools, key logger, microphone, printer, scheduler, Skype, screen and webcam and VoIP all work with Microsoft Windows, and only a few work with OS X and Linux.

They further state, “We’ve taken down our website at http://finsupport.finfisher.com/ while we investigate rumours that it may have been hacked,” @GammaGroupPR, tweeted yesterday, before the next tweet added, “Hope our customers’ data is safe.”

I guess we are not sure if FinFisher (government) customers’ names or sensitive data were leaked or are they on pastebins, if that is true than that’s going to be one dirty mess they will clean up.

The project head also promised new chat – voice – theme updates over time to give users the feeling of the best messaging app ever used.

The BitTorrent app gives end to end encryptions and also secures users by gibing encrypted protocols like shr16514, annon515151 etc. This according to the head should be the new normal in the post snowden era

It’s easy to use, you can sign up with your email address, phone no etc. but except email address, none of them are mandatory. It also has an option in which by the users permission it can invite/import your Gmail contacts to chat.

Similar applications to Encrypted chat platforms which offer end to end encryptions are

–          Invisible IM chat service – It is an instant messing platform which leaves no trace of your message as it uses a anonymous network which is wrapped in OTR encryption.

Freedom Activists Create Plugin To Block Advertising

13

Written by: KC H.

In today’s world privacy is everything, not only for Activist but for the average mom or student. A group of Internet Freedom Activists are doing just that, Electronic Frontier Foundation have created a new browser extension for Firefox and Chrome that blocks online advertising and embedded trackers that track your content without your permission.
According to the Press Release, the extension has an added feature called “like” similar to the same function as on Facebook. This function allows you to view the site but prevents the trackers from getting ahold of your personal information and tracking what you’re reading.
“Widgets that say ‘Like this page on Facebook’ or ‘Tweet this’ often allow those companies to see what webpages you are visiting, even if you never click the widget’s button,” said EFF Technology Projects Director Peter Eckersley. “The Privacy Badger alpha would detect that, and block those widgets outright. But now Privacy Badger’s beta version has gotten smarter: it can block the tracking while still giving you the option to see and click on those buttons if you so choose.”
“Users who install Privacy Badger aren’t just getting more privacy and a better browsing experience for themselves—they are providing incentives for improved privacy practices and respect for Do Not Track choices across the Internet,” said Eckersely. “Using Privacy Badger helps to make the Web as a whole better for everyone.”
In the press release it does not mention however the exclusion of having Governments from spying on you. However this is just one of many tools someone should be armed with when wanting to conceal their identity and person information, along with your internet habits.
To install the beta version of Privacy Badger click the following link: https://www.eff.org/privacybadger
