Police in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have confirmed seizing 10 gallons of human urine at a perfume manufacturing factory in a special operation.
It is said the gallons of the urine were kept in several containers, and hidden in an obscure place of the factory. The discovery was made in the municipality of Hail, northwestern part of the country.
The factory is said to be operated by foreign nationals. They have been taken into police custody. Authorities refused to name their nationalities.
The Hail Municipal police special taskforce which raided the factory said they were shocked to discover the items at the factory.
Other items were also discovered in addition to the gallons of the urine. Wood covered with perfumed oil, unknown raw material, strange oil, and perfume bottles were also discovered in the factory.
The Kingdom’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has been notified about the incident. The Civil Defense Department is said to be also looking into the matter for a possible prosecution.
The factory has been reportedly shut down. Media director at the Hail Municipal office, Saad Al-Thowaini told the Arab News in an interview that Municipal officials are cooperating with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to unravel the mystery behind what the police found at the factory.
He also said the operator of the warehouse was fined immediately before taken into custody. The warehouse operator was fined for various violations including the discovery of the human urine on the premises, making perfumes without a license, the presence of unknown raw materials, and other health violations.
Al-Thowaini said the Municipal office will henceforth increase it operation of inspecting restaurants, kitchens, fast food restaurants, confectionery plants and warehouses to make sure that no rules are violated, and ensure public health safety.
The police also added that they are now trying to find out what the urine was being used for; whether it was mixed with the perfumes and being sold on the market or not.
