In an attempt to get support for a bill that would ban abortions in the state after 20 weeks of pregnancy, West Virginia Republican Brian Kurcaba said women who are raped should not abort their pregnancies and should not be exempt from an anti-abortion measure as the child that comes as a result of sexual assault is ‘beautiful’.
“Obviously rape is awful. For somebody to take advantage of somebody else in such a horrible and terrifying and brutal way is absolutely disgusting. What is beautiful is the child is that could come from this,” Kurcaba said during a House of Delegates discussion. The House Health Committee voted down an exception for rape and incest victims and approved the bill for a full vote in the House.
WV FREE, which opposed the legislation, urged West Virginians to let Kurcaba know that “we’re disappointed in his lack of compassion and understanding for rape and incest victims who choose abortion”.

Kurcaba quickly issued an apology following public outrage over this horrendous comment.
“I apologize to anyone who took my comments about the sanctity of human life to mean anything other than that all children are precious regardless of circumstances. It is unfortunate that the only portions of my statement were publicized resulting in misrepresentation. As always, I will ensure that my focus continues to be on making West Virginia a better place to create jobs and raise a family,” ‘ he said in the statement.
Kurcaba, a financial adviser, was supported in his race by West Virginians for Life, an anti-abortion group. At 20 weeks, anti-abortion activists and lawmakers allege, a fetus can feel pain and is therefore too viable to abort.
i don’t think it’s important to note this man is republican or it’s an conservative issue. These so called leaders are only repeating what they believe will keep them in office. We have no idea what he really thinks. What’s disturbing is the fact it’s acceptable to say this and stay in office.
You apparently don’t believe there is a God, because if you did you wouldn’t be so critical. Even in rape the baby still belongs to God, killing it is not going to make this go away, and the mother would see that something good did come out of all this.

What’s amazing to me is that once you’ve forced innocent families into these horrible lifelong situations, you are the very same people who ostracize and shun these families and the children you supposedly wanted brought into the world. Instead of forcing more misery, poverty pain and hurt into the world, and just plane thinking your ideas should be forced onto everyone else, try spending your time and energy helping the families who are in crisis. In fact, people forcing this law seem to be the very same people who love war, who want to take away love in the world when there is so very precious little of it (gay rights). While I agree that it should be legal for abortion, for all not only rape and incest victims. I do not think this should be carried out past a point either. He never said rape is beautiful and he q as very clear on his view. I am a very liberal thinking individual, but I do not agree with what a lot of these comments. A child can be beautiful, but I do not think it is a very healthy for the women put in this situation to be forced to raise them which in turn add to the millions of orphaned children in the world.

Well he’s not saying the fact that rape or incest is right. He’s just saying that the child, no matter the situation, is still beautiful and still a gift. Rape and incest doesn’t make an abortion right. That is murdering a child and the Bible says: Thou shalt not murder and the law is suppose to be against murder, but for some reason they don’t consider abortion as murder, though it is. If you got raped or was involved in incest, don’t abort the child….Put him or her up for adoption. Every child has a right to be born and have their chance to live up to their potential. For all you know, if you let your child live, he or she may be the next president or may be a good leader to lead changes in the world for the better. It’s not the childs fault that you got raped and it’s not the child’s fault if you got forced into incest…..So why kill the child? Nobody said you had to have the child and keep the child, there are other options. That being adoption and who knows, if you were to decide to put the child up for adoption, you might change your mind about giving him or her up after you go through the process of carrying that child for 9 months and giving birth to him or her.

Pregnancy that is a result of rape or incest is probably the BEST reason to have an abortion. Inbreeding can cause both physical and mental abnormalities. Even if it doesn’t, in either case (rape/incest) should someone be forced to pass down those lovely genetic traits. Obviously the father was a real “winner”. If a victim decides to keep a child because they want to, then that is there choice to make. If a victim decides to abort the child then that is their choice as well. If your not the one who was raped, why is this any of anyone’s business? I seriously don’t get it… I’ve been raped, it was horrible and thankfully no pregnancy came from it but I’d it had it certainly wouldn’t have been anyone else’s business but mine.
I think 20 weeks is more then enough time to figure out that your pregnant and decide whether you want to keep it. I personally think it should be significantly shorter, like 10 weeks at max, regardless of whether you believe in a higher power or not this is still human life we’re talking about here. and it shouldn’t be an issue to wait around 4-5 months to decide whether you should/can/want to keep it. make that choice as soon as possible.
I’m personally not a fan of abortion but if it needs to happen then it should happen as soon as possible.
