Webee, the world’s first affordable entertainment system that also allows you to connect and control every device in your home, has partnered up with UPS in order to distribute their smart home hub to as many home worldwide.
“When I started with this dream, people called me crazy because home automation is only for rich people,” said Lucas Funes, founder and CEO of Webee. “So I said, ‘No, the technology is there.’ What we need to do is to create something low cost, plug and play, and more powerful. This allows to make the smart home dream real.”
Kitchen appliances, lights, thermostats, speakers can all be controlled from any mobile device by using the Webee app. To control these devices around your home, Webee offers Plug and Play smart devices that can control the appliances. However, if the user already owns smart devices from third party manufactures, these devices can be easily integrated into the system.
In addition, as the user begins to control the devices around their home, the system will start to learn their daily habits and create energy efficient scenarios.
According to the Webee website, Webee is the first real smart home ecosystem that learns from users and programs itself. Webee learns the daily habits of its users and then starts adjusting the thermostat to save money and provided the user with recommendations to save energy and money.
In 2014, the company sought $50,000 worth of investment through the crowdfunding site Indiegogo, but ended up raising nearly $75,000 instead. However, once the product had been designed and built, the Webee team encountered a number of difficulties when distributing the product to homes worldwide. Enter UPS:
“So once we define the technology and the product, the challenge was build the devices in China and then shipping worldwide,” Marcelo Paladini, Chairman of Webee, explains in the short video.
“When we started to learn about shipping, it was a nightmare,” said Funes. “Finally, we found UPS who helped us a lot.”
As outline in the video, UPS provided the company with guidance that went above and beyond shipping, giving the company an understanding of the different regulations throughout the world. You can learn more about the Webee and UPS partnership by watching the featured video.
