Ecuadorian President Alludes to CIA Coup

0

The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, has alluded to the CIA attempting to weaken his government and meddling in the nation’s affairs in support of opposition groups.

Since 2009, the diplomacy between Ecuador and the United States has been strained, after a decision was made to cease the continued use of air bases for surveillance by the United States. The reports in 2013 by an Ecuadorian Media agency on assassination plots against Correa by the CIA and the housing of Julian Assange in their London embassy, have also pitted the US against the Ecuadorian government in what is now being warned as a possible attempt at another US-staged coup.

“What he terms a CIA presence has the specific goal of weakening the Government. He’s also accusing the opposition of trying to exhaust the Government with a series of coordinated nationwide protests.” [1]

Given the history of coups led by the United States: Bolivia in 1971, Haiti in 2004, Paraguay in the 1960’s and Argentina and Iran in the 1950’s… could Ecuador be the next US objective?
