A newly released document from the US government says that they’ll be storing their Top Secret documents in the cloud. Information Week reported that the Department of Defense just issued a document that outlines their plan to move document storage to the cloud. And the documents they’re talking about storing are Impact Level 6 Top Secret documents – the level that Snowden’s leaks had. In other words, the US government is about to store its biggest secrets in the cloud, a storage solution that repeatedly suffers hacks. The Resident discusses.

  1. It would be nice to see those clouds hacked, but i found myself asking”why would the government store impact level 6 secret documents in clouds if they know they are relatively easy to hack?”

    • Seems fishy, maybe a trap for cloud hackers, you wouldn’t announce it like that if it wasn’t. I wanna know the secrets, someone, hack it and leak it please!

  2. I really do wonder what the government actually hiding hmm if it goes public i can imagine what would actually happen WAR more like.
The government don’t like people who interfere with there business but now the time to know Exactly what there planning anonymous.

    • thats what I was thinking the only reason you would tell people about this would be as a trap for hackers problem is only real way to know for sure is to snair the trap

  3. haha they aren’t really secret if everyone knows about it . my opinion media cover ups are getting to fail, so better invite hackers to hack files which probably are some distraction from the real problems . pls let them get more Original then this

  4. Something wrong the government never want to store top secret files in internet especially the high level one.maybe its just part of plan to lure the hackers and arrest them maybe?

  5. the government still uses Floppy disks , 8-inch (200 mm), 5¼-inch (133 mm), and 3½-inch (90 mm) sizes. They are not stupid enough to save their classified information in the cloud. They uses what you feel is obsolete and is not hookup to internet

  6. Cloud storage is cheaper and less prone to being lost in disaster. As for security, cloud storage is less secure than a physical hard drive mainly because a hard drive is in your possession. The U.S. Government will likely use VPN’s to access these Cloud storage’s, minimizing the risk of leakage. There are also other protocols that secure connections like Linux SSH and Microsoft’s SSL, and these have not been identified to have vulnerabilities… Yet, or none that I know of. Links appreciated if you know some.

The U.S. Government does a good job standardizing connection protocols, and unless you have someone like Bradley Manning at a computer console, or another Edward Snowden, it’s unlikely without many hours of penetration testing, to ever hack their servers. Not saying it cannot be done. Most of the major leaks of U.S. Government documents have been committed by people who have access to that Data already.

I’d say the only time that it could be vulnerable is when it is initially implemented.

  7. If the U.S Government is really this stupid to put Top Secret files up in the cloud, then there will be chaos if the information gets leaked… So lets leak it.
