What happens when you choose controversial passages from the Bible and pretend they’re from the Quran? Just what you’d expect…and then something quite powerful!
Here’s a thought-provoking social experiment that could help cut through some of the deep divisions we’re seeing right now between Muslims and non-Muslims.
Two Dutch guys wrap a Bible in a Quran cover, read some gory passages from the book, and ask people on the streets what they think (of Islam, in effect). Their reactions are exactly as you’d expect…but something changes when they learn the passages are actually Christian.
Some people seem embarrassed by what they’d previously said. One admits to being prejudiced; another blames the media. All of them without exception are taken completely by surprise that these words are taken from the Bible- especially the gruesome part about why it’s a good idea to cut off a woman’s hand.
The words don’t represent the faith, which is interesting: because when you apply it to Islam, you start to realize how easy it is for one fanatical group to wildly misinterpret a holy book for their own agenda (just look at the ‘God Hates Fags’ Westboro Baptist Church extremists, for example).
This video is a useful reminder that all holy texts are a product of their time: in some parts they are inevitably sexist, violent, and basically backwards. What can we expect from an ancient collection of stories? Christianity is no exception. The hate-filled extremist interpretations of a small minority ultimately have nothing to do with the book or the faith a whole.
The twitter hashtag #youaintnomuslimbruv (‘you ain’t no Muslim, bro’ in London slang) is an uplifting example of this. It’s been trending on Twitter since a man was stabbed in London, following the UK’s vote to attack Syria. We don’t yet know if the suspect is Muslim, but he is reported to have shouted: “This is for Syria!” before randomly attacking a man in his fifties.
An observer shouted: “You ain’t no Muslim, bruv,” and his words have since been used as a hashtag to show solidarity between Londoners, especially those Muslim Londoners who are feeling increasingly isolated and afraid.

Do most people who actually read the Holy Bible quickly find it to be a horror story?
Yeah i used to listen to the new testoment on my way to work and loved it for the most part, made me a believer in good….Thennnn, i read the old testoment. annnnd i couldnt get past the first 200-300 pages the whole book is about manipulating human beings into murdering others for land. The horror continues into describing mandatory slave like ways of living, and finally it explains how god or whatever goes out of the way to make people suffer until they sacrifice themselves for his/its own personal gain to use as a slave. Also, to note, everyone that god/whoever promises land and great things too always in the long run god/whoever goes back on his/its own word and kills the people off somehow….Again i had to stop reading it because it was making me sick, but it helped me learn about how not to act and how to better spot manipulation, so in a way, i guess it was positive read in that respect.
I agree with you, but let’s remember that the Old Testament is not strictly “Christian” – it is the New Testament that covers the birth and life of Christ and the new teachings and values. The Old Testament is similar to the Torah, the Bible of the Jewish religion. The quotes used in the video are all from the Old Testament. As such, I don’t think the video makers have achieved the objectives they might have done.

Like it or not, Mr. Quod, the Old Testament is part of the Bible and many Christians worship that book.
But Christians put the New Testament above the Old Testament. Sounded like all of this was Old Testament, as Christian followers were not instructed to use violence, but to leave the punishment to God.
The Old Testament was/is, at worst, restricted to a little speck of land on the corner of the Mediterranean. The Quran/Islam does not have a safe boundary.

Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all are Abrahamic religions, meaning they all stem from Abraham, who you likely know from the Bible. All three religions base their Holy books off the same text, what we know as the Old Testament the Jew’s know as the Torah, and the Muslim’s know as the Quran. The Quran teaches the same stories as the Bible, though, there are some differences. For example, the Bible sites Isaac as the leader and founder of the religion, but Islam comes from Ishmael, Isaac’s brother. Therefore, we (Jews, Muslims, and Christians) actually worship the same God, because Christianity comes for Judaism, afterall, Jesus was a devote Jew and Rabi, and our religions are all brothers. We should treat each other as such.

The bible was written over two thousand years ago.
The koran was written in the seventh century.
The BIG difference is that Christians do NOT still abide by these ancient thinkings,do not go around in 2015 cutting peoples heads off because of texts

I very much understand the purpose of this video, however, the creators have missed a very key point, which differentiates Christianity and Islam. Christians no longer follow the old laws depicted in the Old Testament. Christians are to live their lives according to Jesus’ teachings, not the old kingdom laws.

But jesus pbuh says..i have come not to abolish the law of the prophets but fulfill.
You don’t understand the passage. Fulfill as in: make all the requirements of the law fulfilled so nobody has to perform cleansing rituals anymore, your sins are paid for eternally. The law is only intact in parts not connected to it, that’s why you don’t see christians getting circumcision, give flour as offerings and so on.
The only meaningful difference between devoted Muslims and devoted Christers is the way they spell the names of their imaginary god(s).

There is a thing you need to know about Holy Books of Quoran and Christians.
Latest are more important. So the Bible came a way from “eye for an eye” to “forgive your enemies” and last part is much more important for Chistian then “old” part.

That’s not true at all. The Quran preaches peace and tolerance throughout. It does allow for defence but it’s key message is it is only for god to judge sins not man. Muhammed taught we should all respect each other’s beliefs and that conversion should always be voluntary. Your fear is from reading what fear mongers say about Islam.
Quran is not in chronological order. Surah 9 should be near the end, it is around the 629 Conquest of Mecca. It is not peaceful and tolerant. I’m reading what the Quran and tafsir say about Islam.

These quotations are from the Old Testament which is more an ancient Hebrew history than the teachings of Christianity. Jesus came not only to save us, but to show us that the over 600 rules created by men were not God’s way. Jesus taught us that the Christian God is a God of Love, Peace and forgiveness. Only 2 rules: Love God with all your heart, love your neighbour as yourself.
Thing is, religion is not the issue. Book is not the issue. The people killing people…Now that is an issue. You can pray to any Gods, but there be one bunch of people, who will use the God’s name in there favor, as they think that hiding behind backs of innocents, will make them bigger then they are now.

This video is crap. They forgot to point out the fact that the church has gone through a reformation. These quotes they cited are not practiced or taught. Subsequently they do cut hands of for crimes under the laws of islam. The main difference between the Catholics and Muslims is the catholics know the old text is archaic nonsense. The old testament is a book full of violence, and God is seen as a mighty powerful warrrior ready to protect his people – the jews.
The new testament, which is properly the Christian faith is full of the love that Jesus taught to eveybody and ordered his apostles to teach.
Since Jesus was a jew, and he said that he did not come to abolish the law but to see that it was obeyed, he condensed the commandments into two of them: love God above anything else, and thy neighbor as thyself. He simplified religion for all the people to understand and obey it.
It’s that simple. Do not damage anybody else, or their properties – the (libertarian or) non-aggression principle – and help others whenever you can; and love and honor your parents. Be grateful for your life and what you get from it. This simple and well known philosophy of life is the most advantageous to all people… if followed!

First and foremost what these guys missed while performing this charade is that they have cited sayings from the old testament, which is not what Christianity preaches in any way, just for your information and i challenge you to find an aggressive or violent speeches in the new testament,before you go hooling and cheering for what you saw in this video..

Let’s say there are violent verses both in Bible (Old Testament) and Quran. The fact is; christians don’t apply them in a real life (because I believe most of Christians refer to New Testament which is 100% violence free) while muslims do. I live in a country with majority muslims populations, mostly “the good muslims” or “moderate muslims” actually people that don’t even understand arabic (Quran). If you track the background of those radicals in Indonesia (Bali bomb, church attack, etc); you’ll find that any of them at least ever studied years in some Islam foundation/missionary

Just a couple of days ago I heard one of the best explanations about rhetoric language you can find in the Bible. For example in the first book of Samuel God commands Saul to cut down to pieces Agag king of the amalekits. Saul destroys almost everything but keeps from destruction king Agag and all of the closest goods. God then calls Samuel and tell him since Saul disobeyed the Will of God now Samuel is the new king because either you serve God completely or you don’t. In Christian life we should take this story to live a better life and how? I mean you can’t be faithful to your wife 95% of the times and the rest of the times cheating on her or you can’t be a good employee and not to make corruption in your workplace only the 90% of the times… you must be honest you must be faithful 100% of the times… that’s how we Christians and Muslims should interpret our sacred books when they talk to us about genocide and murdering… it means we shouldn’t be merciful with the evil of the world or with the very evil in ourselves, we must destroy evilness completely, and again we are not talking about people here, we are talking about against all those wrong politics that have created a so unfair world…

What is interesting is that these people apparently have no knowledge of what the bible talks about. Most of the bible is not peaceful. It doesn’t mean that it’s horrific, but its a history of the religion (or world, however you think about it) but peaceful it is not. It’s a book about the people who sucked at keeping comments and the eventual redemption.
