In a disturbing video from Pine Valley, San Diego County, California, a man is seen being burned to death as Border Patrol Agents of the United States look on.
The deceased has been identified as Alex Martin, and his family has sued the US Government after the video made it clear that Alex burned to death in an eruption caused by the border patrol agents.
According to the account of the story, back in March, 2012, 25-year-old Alex was returning home in his car at around midnight when he encountered the agents who were not in uniform.
According to Filming Cops, because it was already late, it is likely Alex had low visibility of the area, causing him to accidentally get onto the wrong off ramp and head in the opposite direction on the highway.
When the officers noticed that Alex’s car was on the wrong side of the road, they started tailing him, trying to force him to the side of the road. The agents were said to be driving in unmarked vehicles. Alex disobeyed the agents orders, after naturally assuming that the unmarked vehicles chasing him intended to cause him harm.
However, after chasing Alex for a few minutes, the officers eventually forced him to stop at the side of the road. The officers then proceeded to run up to Alex’s vehicle and begin shouting at him.
As reported by the Guardian, one of the agents then broke the car’s passenger side window and shot a Taser into Alex’s car, igniting gas fumes inside. It is said the blast was so strong that it blew the agents backwards, leaving them to regroup before moving their vehicles away from the burning car. As the flames continued to consume the car, none of the agents even attempted to help Alex.
In the video, Alex’s body can be seen burning alive while the agents simply watch him perish in that barbaric manner.
The family’s attorney, Gene Iredale, was quoted by the Guardian as saying,“For some reason, even though each of those cars had a fire extinguisher readily within reach, none of them used their fire extinguishers or tried to use their fire extinguishers, or tried to help Alex who was burning to death inside this car. You’ll see in this video they just walk away, and consult with each other.”
Attorney Iredale also added that agents gave conflicting orders when they stopped Alex, including commands such as “hands up”! “Get out of the car!” and “Roll down the window!” concluding that, “He couldn’t comply with any one command without violating or contradicting the other three.”
According to the Guardian, the disturbing video comes after years of increased scrutiny of the US Border Patrol, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security. The agency has been criticized for using excessive force and having poor accountability.
Reacting to the lawsuit, the Border Patrol said in a statement that it was aware of the lawsuit but couldn’t comment because of the pending litigation. The Border Patrol also stated that it is currently relying on the Federal Attorney’s office for their next move.
