Just when you thought ISIS could not get any more heinous: documents recovered by US spec ops allegedly show that the terror organisation has issued a “fatwa” dictating when a militant may or may not rape his slaves.
A fatwa was issued by ISIS in January 2015, because “some of the brothers have committed violation in the matter of treatment of the female slaves. These violations are not permitted by Sharia law because these rules have not been dealt with in ages.”
The documents were allegedly obtained in May, after a US raid.
The fatwa calls the slave women and children “one of the graces which Allah have bestowed” upon the Islamic State. UN figures estimate that thousands of women and girls (some as young as 12) were being sold as sex slaves or bestowed upon terrorists as rewards.
Rape of slaves is perfectly fine, according to the fatwa, but not when she’s menstruating or pregnant.
“it’s not permissible to cause her to abort if she’s pregnant.”
Inadvertently, the documents also show that ISIS fighters often rape entire families of women.
“If the owner of a female captive, who has a daughter suitable for intercourse, has sexual relations with the latter, he is not permitted to have intercourse with her mother and she is permanently off limits to him.”
The fatwa also tells fighters not to have sexual intercourse with a slave owned by his son or vice versa.
Militants are told to “show compassion towards her (female captive), be kind to her, not humiliate her, and not assign her work she is unable to perform,” though apparently violent rape fits the ISIS definition of “compassion”.
