In the Italian Alps this winter, skiers hoping for an idyllic winter getaway were instead skiing on grass because of lack of snow and an unusually mild and dry December. Temperatures across Europe had been unusually hot in 2015 with experts at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration saying the period from January to November 2015 was the hottest recorded since 1880. This video of people attempting to ski on brown grassy slopes when they should be gliding over thick snow is a troubling reminder of the future we face if we do not make an effort to cool down warm temperatures thanks to global warming.

Storms finally arrived over the first weekend of 2016 with nearly half a meter snow falling in some resorts. Skiers took to social media to share their ‘ultimate joy’.
