PolitiFact has confirmed again from the latest data available that domestic gun violence in the United States has killed more Americans than all wars the country has fought, beginning from the Revolutionary War.
PolitiFact is an initiative by the Tampa Bay Times. Reporters and editors from the Times and affiliated media outlets fact-check statements by members of Congress, the White House, lobbyists and interest groups in the US.
According to data available, the US has fought 12 major wars (Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War (Union and Confederate, estimate), Spanish-American War, World War I. World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Afghanistan War, and Iraq War). The country has also fought some minor wars in these countries: Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Somalia and Haiti.
Deaths from these wars are estimated to be 1,396,733. This data was first published by the Congressional Research Service on Feb. 26, 2010. PolitiFact updated it with data from up-to-date deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan using the website icasualties.org. PolitiFact also used the broadest definition of “death” — that is, all war-related deaths, not just those that occurred in combat.
On domestic gun violence, PolitiFact used a conservative estimate of data from a 1994 paper published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to count gun-related deaths from 1968 to 1980. For 1981 through 2013, it used annual data sets from CDC. Finally, for 2014 and the first eight months of 2015, PolitiFact estimated that the number of gun-related deaths were equal to the rate during the previous three full years— 2011 to 2013.
Adding these figures, PolitiFact said from 1968 to 2015, there have been 1,516,863 firearm-related deaths in the US, which is more than deaths the country has recorded in all wars it has fought.
Below is the full statistics of deaths America has recorded from domestic gun violence, and wars it has fought in the past years.

The Virginia Center for Public Safety, a gun control advocacy group said the confirmation again by PolitiFact shows why it has become necessary for the US to embrace gun control policy. The group has held public rally, distributing fliers to people to raise awareness of how gun violence is harming the American society.
Earlier this month, President Barack Obama announced new anti-violence actions that would, among other things, close the gun show loophole that allows certain purchasers to bypass background checks. Huffington Post reports that President Obama’s announcement has sent gun manufacturers’ stocks soaring. Many people are rushing to get their guns before these new actions by Obama could be implemented.

Now, take away the gun related deaths by criminals because no matter what the gun laws are, they’re still going to have guns because they don’t care about the law. I bet that death toll is a whole lot lower now.
That’s true..
But apparently there are more deaths from people being irresponsible with guns like kids playing with guns then from people intentionally trying to kill each other such as muggers or home invaders.
bullshit, seems to be missing the native Indian genocide/war which is approx 100 million.
and what about shot by police/law enforcement % stats.
of course if that was added it would clearly show that the law needs to be disarmed or at the very least educated on gun safety.
here’s a trinket for you,Australia tried the US law enforcement method in the 70s and 80s,shot by cop stats went through the roof and was revoked eventually.
Did anyone else notice that accord to THEIR records, that the amount of “domestic” gun violence has went down greatly in recent years as gun ownership has went up? I rest my case.
Population control
What a load of crap. Yea The deaths by gun violance is extremely high. But it’s funny how they leave out that more then 1.5 million people have been killed by the US in iraq alone and it’s still countin. Afghanistan is more then 500k. Get your facts straight Fake anon website
The article is misleading. But everything is misleading nowadays.
The article is only counting, the Americans who died in said wars. Not how many they killed. The facts checks out as far as I know. But I could be wrong.
Don’t take away people’s right to own guns. Take away guns and criminals take over!In South Africa it is very hard for an honest citizen to get a gun while crime is out of control and criminals walk around with R1s and AK47s!! Innocent people die daily at the hands of mindless harsh criminals, people who could have defended themselves if they could get a gun! In fact just this morning there was a double armed robbery/hi-jacking by 20 robbers outside my office!! Huge shoot out bodies lying in the street.. Luckily this time the police had the upper hand and some of them died and was arrested. Our people are brutally killed by criminals! Not to mention the brutality of hate crimes and farm murders! Please check out the link, and be prepared to be shocked.. If these people had guns it might have turned out differently! http://www.censorbugbear.org/farmitracker/reports . Look at the images on google when you google farm murders South Africa. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFRMA6VDTmja8jL4sRXZdyLVzYNeZUSug To the people of america, DON’T LET ANYONE TAKE AWAY YOUR RIGHT TO OWN A GUN.. You have the right to protect yourself!
I wonder if these geniuses committing journalism considered the fact that more people are alive today than have ever lived. I’m wondering why that didn’t enter into any of their arithmetic.
I see Montana is a high zone area. Deceiving because we only have slightly over a million people. In Montana you never ask if someone owns a gun, you ask how many they have. Just ask any law enforcement about that one. This article does not differentiate gun deaths from people “just passing through” who commit violent crimes. I would like to know the actual number comparisons of guns privately owned compared to gun deaths. Another issue I have with this article is how many of these deaths are someone being attacked who shoots back? Most of us here will shoot back in self defense. Further how many deaths calculated here are self inflicted, gang shootings, police shootings, etc… This is a propaganda article trying to convince honest gun owners to give up their guns in favor of only allowing guns in the hands of military, law enforcement, and criminals.
Let’s take this to the next step. How many people die from knife attacks? How many crimes are committed by knife wielding criminals? Should we take away all kitchen and pocket knives next? What goes next, cars? Oh my better get rid of airplanes because people die from them too! When does the insanity end in favor of responsibility?
