Russian hackers, who are thought to be a part of the Russian intelligence group, have attempted to hack The New York Times along with many other respectable news organisations. The breach came to light in the past few months and is currently being investigated by the FBI and many other security agencies. As stated above many security professionals believe that these hacks are originating from Russia and that the hackers are targeting the news agencies because they want to know what is going within the Democratic Party.
As many of the hacks are mostly mining emails to which New York Times states that they use email services from Google, to which Google has not yet responded. And even the FBI has not made any comments on their findings.
Eileen Murphy who is New York Times spokesperson stated that the organisation did not come across any such findings that can direct them to a potential hack, which had breached their internal network this was in response to CNN’s allegations on the New York Times systems and email breach.
Murphy also added that the New York Times is always monitoring their systems and have they updated with all the latest security patches and updates available in the market. She further went on saying that neither the ones in New York and nor the ones in Moscow were hacked.
According to the intelligence agencies at home, these hacks are a part of a bigger picture, and the recent intrusion has brought to light that the Russian intelligence organizations are using these online tactics to not just hack news organizations but also the think tanks in the capital of the United States to collect as much information to help them create a picture of the US political system. And if you are thinking why to target a news agency to gather information, it’s because news companies are viewed as good information collectors and can provide important data via the contacts the journalists have in the government along with their private chats and messages that can provide a variety of off the record sensitive information.
After CNN published this report, the New York Times stated in its article that they were going to hire a reputable security specialist to investigate and evaluate their systems and report the findings – that is if they are found.
However, according to the intelligence community, all eyes are prying on Russian intelligence as the United States government believes that the hacked treasure of Hillary emails was stolen by the Russian intelligence and was given to WikiLeaks to be published. However to topple this Clinton campaign believes that these hacks proof that the Russians are working with Donald Trump and are in his support for the race to the American presidency.
