Anonymous “Hacktivists” Strike a Blow Against ISIS

Anonymous has just struck a massive blow against ISIS recruiting efforts. Hacktivists recently took control of dozens of Twitter and Facebook accounts that had been openly used by ISIS to expand their influence and recruit new members.

The above video explains the attack was coordinated by “Muslims, Christians, Jews” alike. They are “hackers, crackers, Hacktivist, phishers, agents, spies, or just the guy next door… students, administrators, workers, clerks, unemployed, rich, poor.” They are also “young, or old, gay or straight… from all races, countries, religions, and ethnicity. United as one, divided by zero.”

An important point made by the video is that “the terrorists that are calling themselves [the] Islamic State (ISIS) are not Muslims.” Anonymous further directs a threat to ISIS itself:

We will hunt you, take down your sites, accounts, emails, and expose you…
From now on, no safe place for you online…
You will be treated like a virus, and we are the cure…
We own the internet…
We are Anonymous; we are Legion; we do not forgive, we do not forget, Expect us.

        • lets break this down barny style, Anonymous just shut down their major recruiting efforts considering that without the internet, its almost impossible for them to contact and influence dumb kids in America.
          While we have boots on the ground fighting for their lives. One is shutting down their access to the internet, the other is simply shutting them down.
          Anonymous is stronger via cyberwarfare. hands down. its well known that the American cyberdefence and cyberattack is a joke.
          But the American army is still stronger through sheer firepower. We have hackable drones yes. Drones that need analog refit,repair, and refuel. We have hackable gps systems yes. But we also have redundancies because shit breaks. You can’t hack an Abrahm’s SABOT round. You can’t hack an M16.
          Dont insult the soldiers giving their lives for you kid. I can support Anonymous for this action because I can respect it. I can’t respect kids who think they have some dumb ass right to insult the soldiers who have given their lives to defend you.

          • Thank you, Somsphet. “United as one, divided by zero.” We must use all resources at hand to deal with this scourge, root them out wherever they are and terminate them with extreme prejudice. I heartily applaud the efforts of this hacktivist group and, as a Marine dad whose son’s boots are on the ground very close to this arena, the military is doing what they are allowed to do and I can only hope and pray that the dogs of war will be let loose to create havoc and strike fear into the hearts of ISIS and anyone who would support them.

          • Somsphet the “dumb ass kids” have absolutely every right to insult soldiers (even though he was not insulting them, he was saying how much more effective the internet tactics are rather than just bombing, which in effect kills MANY civilians who in turn will create more terrorists avenging their deaths).

          • Ex Army Combat Medic here. Thanks for your support, but firstly..M 16s aren’t in use anymore. Secondly. the US is not ALONE in boots on the ground hunting ISIS. It is very very scary to find people who think that the US military is the greatest in the world. We aren’t. We are just the biggest stick out there. I can think of countries who have smaller, better equipped and more streamlined Armed Forces, with wiser governments to command them. Because I have MET these service people. Please do not act as though the US is the only hero in this. You’re disrespected everyone who has bled and died world wide if you think we are.
            As far as Aonymous goes. Good for them, good luck and keep em running like rats.

          • As sad as it sounds the soldiers are not giving their lives to protect anything than money. Open your eyes, american never went to war to protect themselves, neither to friendly help others… They only went to war for economical purpose.

          • There’s another couple of reasons governments can’t really act the same as Anon, firstly, you can’t defend freedom by restricting freedom without betraying the ethics you seek to uphold, there is no caviat that says “I defend your right to free speech but only as long as I agree with you” If any gov tried to wholesale take down any voice of opposition they would automatically become a rallying call against themselves.
            The second is intelligence, its a weaker argument, bit it would be naive to think governments aren’t able to find accounts that spread sedition. Instead of taking them down they will be monitoring them with the intention of gathering intelligence, who can trully know how many attacks have been nipped in the bud this way.
            Anonymous’s activities are a welcome addition to whats alreadybeing done, radicalisation is a complex world issue, that requires a complex world solution.

      • Great points, but it’s important to note that ISIS’ strongest arm is their media machine. Eradicating their extensive digital presence is the first step to reducing their mainstream power, which, kind of like the stock market, takes their funding away.

I have a request to them: That they find, uncover all the financial info on ISIS, including account No’s, hidden supporters and backers, and that they share that info with somebody who can empty those accounts. I do know that the “Head” of this serpent is located in Somalia.

        • It is the majority Malays who run the government, and they even have discriminatory “sons of the soil” (called Bumiputra in their language) policies to prop up fellow Malays at the expense of other races. This sentiment is usually a result of modernization progresses, you can see it in various countries again and again: if there are big steps forward in modernization, certain groups will be overwhelmed and react with opposing modernity and stating that the old way to do it is the only right way to do it… even if they don’t know anymore what the old way was.

    • There’s the old saying” if it sounds to good to be true, than it probably is. The words “We Are Legion” scares the hell out of me because it is used as a term for demons. All through history many things start out sounding good, and the thought is good. But in the long run, given human pride, usually turns evil.     • Tom you really need to educate yourself. Do you really think Anonymous has a server or any site to be hacked? The power is in numbers. Individuals scattered all over the world. We all do our work from different places, IP’s using direct access or proxied access. I may connect through a public wifi. I may log in at a library or some other public place. I use a DVD or CD or a USB custom built OS and all my primary tools. I never hack illegally or against my country. Anyway you may get the point. I’m almost never in the same place twice in a short period of time. So if you hack the system I’m on it just does not matter. The hardware I am using is not effected because it’s hard drive is not even in the system when I’m booted to my live CD, DVD or USB. have some fun learn how to help the Internet world fight against opression and other problems.     • Given a choice between resolving a problem and “monitoring” it, our government prefers to “keep tabs on it”. Heaven forbid they should ever END an issue, ever take action to FINISH something as vile as ISIL.

    • Because Facebook is scared of these people. There are a lot of veteran ran pages that have been working on getting these pages and others like them shut down by using Facebook’s own rules of conduct and such as a way to do it. Instead, these pages stay up and the eveteran ran pages get shut down. Happens every damn day. Facebook is scared.

  34. I love what you guys do. I may contact you about how 300k and growing each year are being infected with Lyme disease and other bacteria the government is denying it. We have a huge community, over a million around the world, easy, but all of us are too sick and we can’t get the word out about the CDC and IDSA cover up and lies. In the meantime, we all are suffering. Some are dying. Chronic Lyme is real.

Infectious Diseases doctors are the main problem, in league with the private health insurance companies who won’t cover the cost of treatment, leaving people for dead.       If you stop to think about it, perhaps the apparent reluctance of goverments to take these sites down themselves (wich they very well could if they really wanted to) points to the fact that it may be in their own interests to have subversive elements travel to the desert to catch bullets. In fact, it may even be in the interests of society, were it not that they target young people with undevelloped brains who tend to make emotional and irrational decisions. It may be far more effective to change the content of these sites instead of taking them down completely. But it’s another thing to take on a crazed uber extremist terrorist organization that doesn’t play by “the rules”. It would be sad to see some self righteous ISIS sympathizer (like the ones that went on a shooting spree in France recently) take out an Anonymous hacker in some stupid suicide bomb attempt to restore “honor” to the cause.   271. It’s hilarious that it takes an action from a illegal group for Facebook and Twitter to take action on such accounts. You would think being such up to date company’s both websites filter systems would have found these first.

    Any words or codes that ISIS once used to communicate anonymously can now be added to these filter, weather or not the two company’s do so is anyone’s guess.

    Governments shouldn’t be out-lawing you, they should be thanking you for your actions.

    Also I have a question: upon making a cyber attack on a certain company, government etc. do the anonymous collaborate in some way to hack into the systems? Or does each personnel take up the announcement and do it individually?
