Giving blood just became a less worrisome process.

The technological breakthroughs of today are incredible. Heck, not only have chips been developed to someday take the place of animals in laboratories, but a new bionic lens could give everyone better than 20/20 vision.

This is definitely an interesting time to be alive!

And now, a new device called the VeinViewer has been created, and it uses harmless, near-infrared light to show precisely where veins are located. The innovation takes the guess-work out of a process many people fear.

Designed by the Memphis-based company Christie Medical Holdings, the VeinViewer can find the veins and then project them onto the arm in real time. A special light can be either absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood or reflected back by the skin. It also can find veins up to 0.4 inches deep.

In “fine detail” mode, the contrast is boosted so that it shows more detailed patterns to help practitioners locate the best place to penetrate the skin and inject the needle.

For squeamish individuals, this device may become your new best friend.

“Only VeinViewer can provide pre-, during and post-access benefits throughout the entire vascular access procedure,” said Christie Medical Holdings’ president, George Pinho.
