Once again, a cell phone video surfaced, this time showing what looked like a SWAT team drawing down on a car in a Jack in The Box drive thru. Well, it turns out that a Santa Clara County California Sheriff’s deputy pulled out his gun and pointed it at the frightened teenage cashier. The store employees’ wasted no time in calling 911. The incident occurred in January 10, 2016 at 2:40 am.
The officer was identified as 33 year old Benjamin Lee. His department is currently investigating the incident. According to store employees, when the deputy pulled up, he was frustrated with the long wait in the drive thru. When he drove along side the drive thru window, instead of grabbing his wallet, he pulled out his firearm. The Santa Clara PD showed up before his food did. With AR-15’s being pointed at his vehicle, the deputy eventually exited the car and surrendered without further incident. Lee has been placed on paid administrative leave.
It probably wasn’t too hard to guess that the deputy was drunk. He was subsequently arrested for DUI and brandishing a firearm. A representative of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association made a statement in response to Lee’s arrest. “DUI by anyone is unacceptable; doubly so when it involves a deputy sheriff. We are held to a higher standard and rightly so.” No mention was made of the aggravated assault committed by Lee. Police always talk of being held to a higher standard, however, allowing police to continually violate the law and seeing they pay no consequence brings that statement into question.
A Google search of Cop Arrested DUI will bring up hundreds and hundreds of cases from recent years where cops have been busted drunk behind the wheel. In this case, the public is lucky nobody was hurt due to Lee’s intoxication or his mishandling of his firearm. If cops are held to such a higher standard, why do we keep seeing cases like this, which show that truth is quite contrary to what they keep telling us? Cops are no better than the rest of us, and in many cases they are worse. As of yet, there is no word on whether or not Lee will get to keep his job.
