In a shocking incident, an Emirates airline flight from India crash-landed at the Dubai International Airport and caught fire on Wednesday, with 282 passengers (including 226 Indians) and 18 crew members on board. The three-hour flight took off from Trivandrum International Airport at around 11.15 am India time before it landed on its tail at around 12.45 pm Dubai time (1.30 hours behind India).

Officials said all passengers were safely evacuated from the Boeing 777, which skidded across the tarmac after its landing gear reportedly failed. Horrified eye-witnesses and video footage describe thick huge black plumes of smoke rising from the top of EK521 after it crashed down onto the runway.

This shocking footage shows the moment the Emirates plane exploded in a ball of flames shortly after passengers were evacuated:

A pilot who witnessed the incident told NDTV that he saw the plane coming in fast and hit the runway tail first.

We saw big flames, then the body hit the runway and the right landing gear collapsed, followed by the right engine coming off. Then it skidded for a while until it stopped.”

Dedicated telephone lines for family and friends of the passengers have been set up:

Flights from Dubai have been delayed, and others scheduled to fly in have been diverted to Sharjah. Emirates also warned of a “network-wide” delay lasting four hours, although the reason was unclear.
