Arthur Booth, arrested in Miami on charges of burglary, grand theft, fleeing and resisting arrest, couldn’t control his emotions and started crying in the courtroom upon realizing—after Miami-Dade County Judge Mindy Glazer, asked him if he had gone to Nautilus Middle School—that the judge presiding over his bond hearing was his middle school classmate.
Glazer asked Booth, “Did you go to Nautilus for middle school?”
“Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness!” Booth exclaimed.
“I’m sorry to see you there, I always wondered what happened to you sir. This was the nicest kid in middle school; he was the best kid in middle school. I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened. I’m so sorry to see this. Mr. Booth I hope you are able to change your ways, good luck to you. What’s sad is how old we’ve become. Good luck to you sir, I hope you are able to come out of this OK and just lead a lawful life,” she recalled.
Melissa Miller, Booth’s cousin, said that Arthur Booth was a scholar, well-rounded athlete, and bilingual before falling into a life of crime and drugs. “I was heartbroken,” she said about Booth and Glazer’s unusual reunion. “We’re really trying to find help, because there’s obviously a need for help.”
Glazer set Booth’s bond at $43,000, and he has yet to post it.
