Those Who Failed to Recognize Trump as ‘Greater Evil’ Made a ‘Bad Mistake’: Chomsky

"I didn't like Clinton at all, but her positions are much better than Trump's on every issue I can think of"

Leftist scholar Noam Chomsky has a message for voters who refused to cast their ballots for Hillary Clinton to prevent Donald Trump from winning the White House: You made a “bad mistake.”

On both moral and practical levels, Chomsky told Al Jazeera‘s Medhi Hasan, the choice was clear.

“Do you vote against the greater evil if you don’t happen to like the other candidate?” asked Chomsky, who spoke out during the election against Trump’s candidacy—and in fact predicted his rise six years ago. “The answer to that is yes.”

With an argument similar to the one made by political scientist Adolph Reed prior to the election, Chomsky insists that voters did not have to ignore Clinton’s serious shortcomings in order to recognize Trump as the much more serious threat.

“I didn’t like Clinton at all, but her positions are much better than Trump’s on every issue I can think of,” the professor emeritus of linguistics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) told Hasan. Chomsky supported Bernie Sanders during the Democratic presidential primary.

Chomsky also objected to philosopher Slavoj Zizek’s post-election argument that Trump’s victory would “shake up” status quo. “Terrible point,” Chomsky said of Zizek’s take. “It was the same point that people like him said about Hitler in the early 30s.”

“He’ll ‘shake up the system’ in bad ways,” Chomsky said of the president-elect. “What it means is now the left—if Clinton had won, she had some progressive programs. The left could have been organized, to keeping her feet to the fire. What it will be doing now is trying to protect rights…gains that have been achieved, from being destroyed. That’s completely regressive.”

Indeed, Chomsky further warned in the aftermath of the election: “The outcome placed total control of the government—executive, Congress, the Supreme Court—in the hands of the Republican Party, which has become the most dangerous organization in world history.”

The GOP “is dedicated to racing as rapidly as possible to destruction of organized human life. There is no historical precedent for such a stand.”

  1. Anybody else remember when Chomsky was an anarchist? “(protect) gains that have been achieved, from being destroyed.” And what exactly is he referring to? Centrally controlled retirement savings? Centrally controlled healthcare markets? Centrally planned education? Oh and how about the thing Chomsky has historically been most passionate about – foreign policy! For fuck’s sake there absolutely was not a clear choice in 2016. Including the third party candidates.

  2. Führer Trump is a known Mafia Associate, he was once even proud of it.
Don’t expect anything good to happen because a blatant Sociopath managed to get the needed electoral college delegates, as CROSSCHECK was essential for establishing one party rule.
Death to Führer Trump’s Forth Reich.

    • Tons of conjecture – looking incorrect in every way. How do you watch such a global movement, and see the people who have been in power – hurting the people… ALL panicked by this one person.. and his ability to relate with the people who have put him in to office.

Also… I would think from someone coming here… and being interested in things good for the people – that the system of the control is already breaking down. All over the world we have the SAME… EXACT… RESPONSE though. Incite riots, make outlandish claims, get violent and throw every dirty legal trick in the way to prevent the people’s will. Instead of recognizing this movement as a collective, you rant about complete conjecture as if it is somehow leading to a beneficial point – and it never comes. Taking steps away from the horrible state the world is in, ISNT a bad thing. And uniting the people is not either. IF you buy in to the idea that he did not have a massive handicap of illegal/dead voters – maybe you should lookup the various raids by the state and federal police during the election (to democratic supporter groups’ offices and Dem officals), there were many arrests from Philly to Austin – w/ people getting jail time for their voter fraud.. all biased one way beyond a handful of cases which have been shown to be for Trump (usually in response to Obama’s walking the line of telling illegals they will not be sought out if they vote… then we have the many buses caught on tape through outlets like Project Veritas News and even individual citizens catching it on their phones, then posting online…. and the list goes on and on. We also have MASSIVE anomalies in which voter turnout in some counties hit 100%, while others had the “Obama anomalies” of being 100% voting Democrat-only.

Go through the data – look up what I am telling you about. If you objectively did this, you would see that you are still buying into the deceptive system that has stolen the elections and power from the people for so many decades now. People need to recognize that we have a chance to unite, and work together towards a better world – regardless of who the people are that lead the way or head the movements. The people are the constant factor.

If you truly feel that Im just crazy, then go out and burn flags w/ the illegals who promote the same ideas as you. The things you say sound like what comes out of the mouths of people who blindly devote themselves to the mainstream media’s bullshit and lies. Verify sources. Educate yourself. The important part is having the people united – not buying some bogus nonsense that can be refuted in an hour objectively researching online.

  3. How can anyone with a lick of sense believe anything Noam “It doesn’t matter who did 911” Chomsky says? Chomsky, being a proven traitor, is dissing Trump as being a traitor? What a joke.
