Man Curses And Insults A Christian Student In NYU Thinking He Is A Muslim, Student Responds With Love

After the attacks in Paris, the fast-growing secular Western Countries are gradually showing their hate and anger toward the Muslim Community. In France itself, where the attacks took place, the Muslim community has expressed some fears as reprisal attacks look eminent.

These developments in France are fast spreading. Many people in the United States, with the 9/11 experience are also exacerbating the situation. Muslims have come under close public scrutiny once again in the US.

Politicians on the road to the White House, like Donald Trump, are suggesting that all US Muslims should wear Holocaust-like ID badges, the Federal government has announced the suspension of granting asylum to Syrian refugees and millions of Americans seem to be cheering these developments.

At the New York University (NYU), a Latino-Christian reported that a stranger he met cursed and insulted him because he resembled a Muslim. The student, identified as Juan, told the university’s Muslim Chaplain, Khalid Latif, he was going to class when a man he has never seen before called him an Arab terrorist, along with some other disturbing names, and even spit on him. Juan posted his encounter on social media:

Juan said his motivation for reporting his experience to Latif is to show solidarity with the Muslim community in the university. He gave roses to Latif to be distributed to the Muslims on campus as a gesture of solidarity and sympathy.

“That his mind brought him to a place of thinking of doing something like this after he went through what he did is so remarkable. He was cursed at, spit on and somehow he decided to buy us flowers because of how we are treated. I wish I had a courage and a spirit like that,” the USuncut quoted Latif as saying.

Juan also later wrote on social media that he chose the rose, “because in my faith, a rose is the symbol of Maria, whom you call Myriam… In recent days, seeing (his Muslim friends; names omitted here) express the pain they’ve felt on campus, pain I too have known intimately, inspired me to continue when I felt I could not. They exemplify this blessed woman that I hold a devotion to, and I felt they needed to be shown love.”

Latif was deeply moved by the actions of Juan and he urged everybody to pray for such spirit.

“Say a special prayer for him and each other on this evening. May each one of us be the reason that people have hope in this world, and never the reason that people dread it, amen.” Latif wrote.

Observers have warned that if the Muslim community continues to suffer this backlash from Western Countries, it will perfectly play into the hands of militants who carry out the attacks because the prime strategic objective of the militants is to convince Western Muslims that they cannot assimilate or even coexist in the West. The militants claim in their propaganda messages that Western societies are so uncontrollably hostile to Islam, and that persecution is inevitable. And certainly, if these developments continue, the militants will be able to convince Western Muslims that the West is at war with them, leading to Muslims abandoning their allegiance to the West and instead, wanting to wage war back on their own societies.
