Now it’s a tough job for any government to hack into Facebook’s user accounts

In the latest development, Facebook has shown intent to rigorously protect the accounts of its users from any government backed or state sponsored hacking attempts or other attacks against them. It seems that Facebook has taken the security of Facebook users to a new level by backing the users and not, as usual, the government.

The move may not go down too well with the various governments around the world who have often been accused of snooping onto the general public and try to censor their voices. Facebook, in the instance of any such perceived attack, will send a notification to its users informing them that they are a victim of such attack. The users will be prompted to enable their login approval which will further require them to enter a security code that they will receive from Facebook. facebookalert

In a similar attempt to enhance the security of its users Facebook had, back in June, enabled the encryption process for email notifications of its users. The emails can be encrypted using a public encryption key. We have seen similar instances by companies such as Google that started an alert system for its users in 2012 that asks its users to enter the answer for a security question whenever it detects any unusual behaviour that even includes logging in from another browser.

The current system used by Facebook will help users to get notified whenever any malware is detected on their mobile devices or computers. Users can then decide the future course of action. Facebook has however clarified that the new system is simply a warning mechanism and the users will just be notified.

In the online world that is marred with controversies of government supported hackers, this move can be a boon to the internet users.
