Obama Announces Intention To Restrict Independent Media: “we’re going to have to change how the media reports on these issues.”

16

President Obama’s terms in office have been rather controversial, but three facts remain true: 1) He loves the poor, apparently, yet poverty has shot up. 2) He loves the poor so much yet he’s clearly sided with the rich, ensuring that the wealth gap has simply exploded under his terms. 3) He doesn’t see the opposition as loyal, but as bad players — his enemy. This is apparently particularly true of Fox News, which Obama ripped as anti-poor bigots during a Wednesday afternoon summit on poverty- it should be noted that FOX is clearly a worthless source of information, and one that serves the false two-party dynamic perfectly. But I’m pretty sure he’s aiming at the alt-media… and using FOX as a sacrificial pawn.

What was most revealing about the president’s comments was his expressed desire to “change how the media reports.”

Speaking of Fox News, the poor, and the way GOP leaders think, Obama said, [W]e’re going to have to change how our body politic thinks, which means we’re going to have to change how the media reports on these issues.”

Here is the full transcript:

I think that the effort to suggest that the poor are sponges, leeches, don’t want to work, are lazy, are undeserving, got traction. And look, it’s still being propagated. I have to say that if you watch Fox News on a regular basis, it is a constant venue. They will find folks who make me mad. I don’t know where they find them. They’re all like, “I don’t want to work. I just want a free Obama Phone, or whatever.” And that becomes an entire narrative that gets worked up. And very rarely do you hear an interview of a waitress, which is much more typical — who is raising a couple of kids and doing everything right but still can’t pay the bills.

And so, if we’re going to change how Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)35% and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 52% think, we’re going to have to change how our body politic thinks, which means we’re going to have to change how the media reports on these issues, and how people’s impressions of what it’s like to struggle in this economy looks like. And how budgets connect to that. And that’s a hard process because that requires a much broader conversation than typically we have on the nightly news.

Right, Obama, you actually believe a failed news channel that barely gets any viewership at all is responsible for people looking down on the poor? Or that t=it is responsible for how Republicans think? Are you kidding me, you think any two-faced politician depends on any news channel for their opinions?! Or is what you’re actually aiming for is total government control of all media, including alternative, because you’re losing your grip on the narrative?

This might surprise some people, but Obama knows nothing about poverty. He has lived a privileged life:

Obama attended prep schools as a child, lived with his well-to-do grandparents in Honolulu as a teen, where he attended Panahou, a fancy private school. Both of his grandparents were well educated; she even worked as the vice president of a bank. For a time, Obama  had a nanny! From there Obama attended Occidental College in California, was well off enough to visit Pakistan for 3 weeks; he then attended two of the most prestigious colleges in the country: Columbia and Harvard.

The closest Obama has ever come to experiencing anything close to poverty was during his time as a community organizer in Chicago.

Obama knows nothing of struggle, or what life is like for those who do.  He has wasted 7 years by purposefully transferring wealth to the rich, by enforcing the faulty economic theory of the “wealth effect”: where people spend more because they feel richer.

Obama likes poor people fine — he likes them to stay poor. He also likes the news media to do what it’s told, and regardless of his stated sentiments…. FOX is NOT the target.

  1. “Right, Obama, you actually believe a failed news channel that barely gets any viewership at all is responsible for people looking down on the poor? Or that t=it is responsible for how Republicans think? Are you kidding me, you think any two-faced politician depends on any news channel for their opinions?!”

Did I misread this article. If author is referring to FOX News as a failed news channel. As of June 30, 2015 they are ranked #1 in all facets of viewership. So another author is putting out suspect misinformation?

    • Actually, Fox does have the largest single audience and does lean to the right. But the narrative from the left is largely that Fox is dying because its viewers are old and dying off. Also, Fox stands alone as the outlet that leans to the conservative side of the discussion. ALL of the others lean left – that includes the major networks, MSNBC, CNN, plus most of the print publications, NY Times, LA Times, WaPo, Chicago Tribune – on and on. So, yes, the word that Fox is dying is out there and their viewership is the largest SINGLE cable news network, but conglomerate numbers show that the left leaning media is firmly in control and dictating the narrative.

    • Yes, Mr. Clean, Fox News has failed. For some dumb, stupid reason, Fox News fails to tell things Oboma wants them to say. Fox News people lie. They refuse to read the script that Obumer writes out for all the other channel.

  2. Noticed that was more about the author than the subject, with a clearly biased viewpoint with a lot of speculation about what Obama means, the link to the transcript is missing, lots of personal and character attacks on Obama… Almost as if it was written by one of those idiots at Fox…. This article is a low point in your reporting. Anonymous, you can do better!

    • I completely agree with you, Obama may not like or dislike poor people but that really has little to do with it the report is just based on too much fallacy, however the media is a massive problem we need to restrict how many media companies people can own Murdoch and others can’t be allowed to own such a large proportion of what we see and hear everyday, it goes against free speech as you are dramatically shrinking how many perspectives are offered to people meaning they can’t form informed opinions (sorry about the poor grammar)

      • Brad, were you smoking some wacky weed when you wrote that comment? Just what part of the Obama story was fallacy? He did grow up in a privileged way, he has never known anything remotely resembling poverty. The ranks of the poor have exploded under his policies. What part of that is false? It’s all provable fact.

Next, go to the FCC…there are some restrictions on how many markets you can be basically own. Your mention of Murdoch is actually very laughable. His one cable network is just that…cable. The liberal braintrust has the three main media outlets CBS, NBC, & ABC….all which are on free over the airwaves tv.

Oh we can’t leave out the author of the story, who made one of the most brain dead statements ever. Fox News, a failed news channel that gets barely any viewership? Let’s see here…Fox News ratings are higher than CNN & PMSNBC, CBS Nightly News, ABC Nightly News, and NBC Nightly News COMBINED. I thinks there’s even room to add all three mornings shows in as well.

The author is clearly a very far, far, far, far leftist who is disappointed in what the regime has failed to do. He also forgets that Obama has no power to regulate the news media, that much is covered in their favorite part of the first amendment.

  3. I can almost guarantee when he spent the two weeks in Afghanistan was when he was turned into the terrorist that he is today time to wake up people look up the TPP Obama’s about ready to be the dictator

  4. I’m on a strict TV news diet. I’ll still dig around on links from Facebook posts for interesting online articles such as this one, but honestly he’s completely right on target with the media. I don’t think he, as President, needs to change the news, but the news needs an adjustment. When the shooting happened in SC a couple of weeks ago and the citizens didn’t riot in the streets, but instead came together against the violence – the media didn’t know what to do. So, they got everyone worked up into a frenzy over a relatively obscure flag that most people didn’t even know about. But, that didn’t work either because the leadership of SC said, you know what, let’s just take it down.

Now they’re headlining about burning churches, desperate for a race card to play, but only 2 of the fires so far have been arson and neither appears to have anything to do with race. The one in SC that has gotten the most media heat was struck by lightning – probably racist Jesus at it again.

  5. In this opinion piece, I see a positive dialogue from Obama – who is quite right in suggesting that the way in which media reports issues (such as bending/framing a false or misleading poverty, social services narrative …towards laziness, etc.), needs to change. It is not clear or substantiated in any way that this dialogue is rooted in malevolent intent to the common good.

The logic is also flawed and unsubstantiated when asserting that Obama knows nothing about poverty or struggle based on a strawman privilege/hypocrisy argument. An understanding about poverty/societal barriers, etc., is not predicated solely on first hand experience. It appears that this opinion exposes the author’s bias against either Obama or authority more than any factual clarity surrounding what Obama may or may not be intending.

  6. Obama knows nothing of poverty struggle, perhaps… but knows nothing of struggle? He’s a pawn within the agenda of the elites in the shadows… anyone we actually see isn’t calling the shots. Having to be president while knowing the fact that you will get JFKed in one way or another if you actually try to make a revolutionary change is something I would define as struggle. I would doubt that he’s a “saint” or close to it and I’m sure he’s made some (rather than being forced to make) shitty decisions but I’m also sure he’s no where near as terrible as a person as our last president. As far as I’m concerned, he speaks his heart at least on occasion in hopes that the people (who actually have the power) will be inspired to make some form of difference. I’m only saying this in attempts to get others to look at the broader picture and to lead to the point that I imagine so many people are holding onto negative and unhealthy emotions whereas they should seek to understand and then go no further (to judgement). A perspective without judgement helps collapse the 3d matrix we’re experiencing/trapped within.

  7. I am sick and tired of this false FB page and it’s articles. This is just nonsense, the facts are nonsense, the attack is nonsense, and continues to misrepresent what Anonymous is actually about. Obama attacking Fox News, the right wing ludicrous news channel is absolutely spot on. Millions of people around the world laugh at it, cannot believe Americans even watch it, and then you lot bash your president for actually giving a shit to attack it for the bullshit peddling lies it sends out to a naive public. And I find it incredible that when all the statistics point towards Obama having achieved positive results for America both in it’s economy and it’s standing in the world, that you try and knock him down, even in your photo here comparing him to Bush…. or whatever you were trying to achieve. Who ever is behind this page is a fool.

  8. Actually media is a major problem. I think it was John Stewart who did a segment where they repeatedly show fox news bashing the poor. People are being grossly misinformed and that is why alternative news has gained so much popularity. I think Obama is pro-alternative news sources and that is why he bashed Fox. He’s appeared on things like between 2 ferns and colbert report, in order to get out issues that normally people would miss or ignore. Obama’s middle class economics is also much more effective than Bush’s trickle down theory, which was a complete failure. It still isn’t the ideal lower class economics which is proven to be the best but its a step in the right direction. Many people hate Obama because they watch Fox which says he’s bad but he has helped many of the people who hate him more than they realize. The wealth gap has continued to widen but he hasn’t been able to do everything he wants about it because Congress refuses to help him. Whether he has experienced poverty or not is a nice observation but that is all it is. What I got out of that is, our President is extremely smart because he has had the best education from day 1. Properly educating people on issues is a major issue today, so Fox should be a target because they misinform people. Obama having a privileged childhood is not a valid argument for him hating the poor. He can’t control his upbringing. That is no different than hating him for being black. There should be restrictions on media just like any other industry. If you knowingly lie to the masses you should be punished. That is libel/slander and it is illegal.

  9. You are full of it about FOX NEWS. They are the only shinning light in this tunnel of darkness of Obama and the rest of the left wing liberal communist, out to destroy the USA and turn it into a socialist nation! All other news stations, CNN, MSLSD, ABC, CBS, NBC and others are outlets of cover up and lies for Obama and all the communist, anti-American demoCRAPS!!!
