China Stops Production of Genetically Modified Organisms

(China) In 2009, a permit was given by the Ministry of Agriculture to develop and genetically modify crops such as rice and corn . In 2014 this permit was revised and not extended . This pleases many environmentalists who had major concerns when those genetically altered products were for sale in the supermarket .

Why GMO’s in the first place ?
The Wuhan area practiced traditional agriculture with heavy use of pesticides .
The new genetically modified crops were going to cut back up to 80 % of those toxic products and in the mean time grow bigger yields ( up to 8% more yield).
This mystical super crop was developed at the Huazhong Agricultural University. It was still illegal to sell genetically-modified rice on the open market of china .

The withdrawal of the permit Part 1:

However in July, GM rice was found on sale in a large supermarket in Wuhan, which is just across the Yangtze River from the Huazhong Agricultural University, where the product was developed. The south China morning post the state television commissioned tests on 5 random sealed bags of rice , the result was that  3 of 5 were genetically altered, thus illegal according to the agreement which the manufacturer signed .

The crop, which was found, was one of two developed by Dr. Zhang Oifa at
the Huazhong Agricultural University and he states that either their product was being illegally reproduced by an outsider or deliberately put on the open market by angry protestors .He also said, “it was not impossible” for the seeds to be put on to the open market.

The withdrawal of the permit Part 2:
And maybe worse than breaking the rules of the contract is .. Public opinion. “We believe that loopholes in assessing and monitoring [GMO] research, as well as the public concern around safety issues are the most important reasons that the certifications have not been renewed,”Wang Jing, a Greenpeace official based in Beijing, wrote in an email to ScienceInsider.
Activists and, generally, people are not fond of the idea of genetically tampering with organisms. There seems to be an inexplicable layer of controversy regarding all living things which are unnaturally reproduced . Some sort of fear of a super-crop spreading disease and misery whist in truth these are the fruits of science and over 3000 years of research and are generally created in ultra-controlled and safe environments . They might  just be our salvation in this ever overcrowding world. Without being hypocritical, because people still are beings with a right to feel bad about something and taking action against it.
So I guess you could say it is kind of a mixed feeling of irrational relief (that this technology will not be used in the near future ) and sadness ( this will probably be the end of genetic manipulation-research in China).
A Chinese professor at Nottingham university, Cong Cao is clear about one thing : this was a major blow dealt to the entire GM researching team  and he also fears for the future of genetic modification in general .
Cao also firmly believes that there is no logic involved with the judgment “Anti-Western sentiment has been judged more convincing than a raft of studies endorsing the merits of agro-biotechnology. Government support for GM food is dwindling fast, and it seems safe to say that the opportunity to commercialize GM rice – and with it the chance to help address some of China’s most urgent problems – is all but gone.”
And on a somewhat disturbing note ; the genetically manipulated corn which was used to feed livestock got way less media attention or even resistance.

End of the line: GMO production in China halted

The NSA Built Its Own Secret Google

35

Written by: Tech Anonymous

For years we’ve been watching everyone from agent 007 to the mission impossible gang wisp through the world secretly stealing, stashing and performing all sorts of ingenious tricks. They have information on anyone, everyone and everything you can imagine and even some things you don’t even know about. Even Batman had a super “bat” computer he could plug things into and get answers from. Now fast forward to the toddler years of the cyber age as we know it. We went from trying to figure out how to program a microwave oven in the 80’s to wearing Dick Tracy’s two way wrist tv/radio in the palm of our hand in 2014. To make information even more accessible to anyone that’s too scared to use the dewey decimal system at their library, we have internet search engines like, ask, bing, and the gian-tacular…google.

Is it hard to believe that the government really DOES have and maintain some sort of a record system like these that fill the world already? Why not? Is it a new concept? No, not by any means. This whole pile of super-secret, taxpayer money sucking “pie in the sky” started way back when President Ronald Reagan singed executive order 12333 on Dec. 4, 1981. The initial goal of this order is as follows:

“1.1Goals. The United States intelligence effort shall provide the President and the National Security Council with the necessary information on which to base decisions concerning the conduct and development of foreign, defense and economic policy, and the protection of United States national interests from foreign security threats. All departments and agencies shall cooperate fully to fulfill this goal. Fuck you NSA

(a) Maximum emphasis should be given to fostering analytical competition among appropriate elements of the Intelligence Community.

(b) All means, consistent with applicable United States law and this Order, and with full consideration of the rights of United States persons, shall be used to develop intelligence information for the President and the National Security Council. A balanced approach between technical collection efforts and other means should be maintained and encouraged.

(c) Special emphasis should be given to detecting and countering espionage and other threats and activities directed by foreign intelligence services against the United States Government, or United States corporations, establishments, or persons.

(d) To the greatest extent possible consistent with applicable United States law and this Order, and with full consideration of the rights of United States persons, all agencies and departments should seek to ensure full and free exchange of information in order to derive maximum benefit from the United States intelligence effort.”*

This would be what opened the door for groups like Homeland security, the NSA and others and gave them the sly “go ahead” to start monitoring anyone they thought could be a threat. Of course, there’s no way to just pick up the threats without monitoring everyone just to see right? Good thing the technology wasn’t quite there yet.

Next on the timeline comes project CRISSCROSS/PROTON in the 1990’s into the early 2000’s. PROTON, used primarily by the CIA, is a storage and analysis system of telecommunications selectors at the TS/SI/FISA/ORCON/NOFORN level of classification and handling (pretty high up on the security food chain) PROTON is the program name as well as the name of the technology.** “CRISSCROSS is the database of telecommunications selectors. Selectors are ( in NSA terms) that information that selects a target for analysis, investigation or collection. Telephone numbers, email addresses, hexadecimal addresses from INMARSAT telephones, IMEI—really any telecommunications “number” or “address” a person would have as a means to contact another, are contained in CRISSCROSS.”** So, It’s not “wheel of fortune” or the “powerball” lottery. There IS supposed to be a process of selection.

Welcome 2014 and Intelligence Community reach or “ICREACH” as it’ NSOC-2012s been nicknamed. ICREACH was developed from 2006 and implemented end of 2007, under the leadership of general Keith Alexander ( Director of the NSA1,2 at that time). Supposedly, this program has an interface similar to the Google search engine making access and search capabilities easy for anyone with the correct access I would assume. Allegedly the program is made to “’follow the movements” of selected people, “ to explore personal networks”,” to assist in the prediction of their future actions” and ” potentially reveal their political affiliations or beliefs.

“ok, for what?” You ask; possible terrorist activities? To see if they like waffles? Maybe to check if they had an argument with a neighbor over dog crap in their yard? “How do we know it really exists? Did we catch someone’s home page open?” Well,  On 25 August 2014, the American internet newspaper “The Intercept” revealed the existence of this search engine, on the basis of information allegedly provided by Mr. Edward Snowden***. Funny how such an outcast of society (as someone put it) seems to mysteriously keep opening our eyes to such interesting subjects.

There we have it. ICREACH and it’s basic history. Implemented LONG before 9/11/01. Who knows how far it actually reaches. What will we find out next week? Maybe we really do have a “Skynet” software system. The concerted view from this little corner… Is it possible? I would say definitely. Sadly enough, very few of the regular people of the world will ever know that this exists. An even more melancholy thought is that the same majority of sheeple don’t even want to know. The general mindset is that if you live a decent life and obey the laws and don’t make a fuss, you’ll be left alone. I disagree. 30 plus years of history presented above say that YOU are fair game for no reason at all. Who’s to say the eye in the sky won’t tap into all of those itty bitty numbers of some unsuspecting drone and turn him into a terrorist simply to justify government funding?

Watch, listen and learn. Work together. We are Anonymous and we are strong.

Controlling The Bahamas – A Paradise For NSA

4

Written by: Anon Watcher

Have you ever heard of SOMALGET? No? Maybe you’ve heard of MYSTIC? Still shaking your head? Well perhaps after reading this, you’ll shake your head for other reasons.

Today, if you were to travel to the Bahamas, be it for work or vacation, and you use a cellphone, then it is almost guaranteed that your phone has been tapped by the NSA. SOMALGET is part of a surveillance program implemented in a secret system to access the country’s cell telephone network.

SOMALGET was legally granted to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. However, it left a ‘backdoor’ open into the phone network, allowing the NSA to intercept and record calls made to, from and within the Bahamas. These calls can be accessed for thirty days, according to documents leaked by Edward Snowden.

SOMALGET not only provides the NSA with metadata, but the content of the calls. The NSA justifies their surveillance on a state of less than 320,000 under the umbrella of “international traffickers and special-interest alien smugglers,” because of its close proximity to Florida. [1]

According to local laws in Bahama, the NSA’s actions are considered illegal. But resources in the Bahamas are minimal. They simply don’t have the ability to fight the corporation on this matter. The governments of past and current insist consent was never given to the NSA for this spying.

Freelancer, Nimrod Kamer, went to the Bahamas to investigate these allegations.

What Kamer found, and caught on his videos during his investigation was the Bahamian Minister for Financial Services, Ryan Pinder, was very comfortable with the situation. When Kamer mentioned that the surveillance could also be part of an “economic” agenda, Pinder responded “The US is surveilling the whole world…it may not be BTC (Bahamas Telecom Company)…I’m not too bothered by it.” [2] [3]

Bahamian Foreign Minister, Fred Mitchell also had something to say on the matter before a local parliament in May, saying that the US had “opened a back door to the country’s cellular network enabling it to covertly record and store the full take audio of every mobile phone call…” When Mitchell asked for the United States to provide an explanation, no public result was given. [4]

SOMALGET can be considered as a section of a larger, more broader surveillance program called MYSTIC. MYSTIC works on the same premise, by monitoring telecommunications in several countries across the world, according to Assange.[5] Reportedly, the combined populations of data being monitored and collected, moves across approximately 250 million people, with the NSA “seeking funding to export the sweeping surveillance capability elsewhere.” (Carlos-Perez, 2014)

The Best Cop in US had joined Ferguson Protestesters

Labeled as the best cop in the world, Ray Lewis, a retired Philadelphia Police Captain, has been participating in and aiding the activists and protesters in Ferguson, Missouri. The ex-cop stated that he is just doing what any “good cop” would do.

“These people have been exploited and oppressed their entire lives, and now they have their own police department perhaps murdering one of their own,” Said Ray Lewis, just around the corner from where Michael Brown was shot.

Lewis’s involvement has included teaching activists how to make their protests as effective as possible, as well as giving them information on how to deal with the police during their demonstrations, his knowledge on the subject comes from his experience with Occupy Wall Street, where he held signs dressed in full police uniform, the Philadelphian police department were outraged, but knew there was nothing they could do to stop him.

Ray worked as a policeman, in the lower-class suburbs of Philadelphia for 24 years, and has since been a tremendous influence in preserving people’s rights as a social justice activist.

Current Advancements In Neuroprosthetics Could Lead To Full-Body Exoskeleton

2

Written by: M

The human body should not be limited by its physicality.  We should not think that losing a limb is the end, as even now mind and machine can amalgamate, and be used to improve our daily lives.  Prosthetic limbs are now being coupled with brain-computer interfaces (BCI). What that means is, not only can we get artificial limbs to replace lost body parts. It also means that we can also control it “consciously”.  These brain-computer interfaces are completely controlled by the power of thought. The BCI receives signals in brain activity, and can convert those signals into commands from which the BCI can operate.

Scientists at the University of Houston in Texas are currently developing prosthetic legs that can be controlled by a BCI.  An electrical and computer engineering expert Jose Luis Contreras-Vidal and his team are developing a BCI that will give the users the ability to control prosthetic legs using just the power of thought. The researchers are currently testing their system on a robotic exoskeleton developed by New-Zealand based Rex Bionics. xio-001

The exoskeleton, known as REX, is the world’s first self-supporting, independently controlled exoskeleton designed to help mobility impaired users walk. The device is independent, and does not need crutches or walking frames and can provide its own stability. It implies that hands are free to move around. The exoskeleton is fitted with four double-tethered straps, an abdominal support and upper harness so it is safe and secure. It is made from hospital standard materials. Such as: pressure-relieving padding, designed for the ultimate comfort.

The current model of REX is controlled by a waist-high joystick control, which allows them to sit, stand, and turn. But the application of Contreras-Vidal’s BCI system could make a huge contribution to the REX exoskeleton. In the coming years, this technology may be able to help people who are completely paralyzed on the waist down to use this robotic exoskeleton autonomously.

In other news, a study at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV), are implicating the BCI system to a prosthetic arm. The prosthetic arm, like Contreras-Vidal’s BCI adaptation, can be controlled by thought patterns. The user can control this arm by just simply thinking about it. In order for this to work, the researchers have to find out if there is a specific memory pattern in the user’s brain that remembers the movement. If so, the electrical signals can be used to manipulate a prosthetic arm.

According to Muñoz Guerrero, the scientist leading the research, one of the obstacles in this project stems from the fact that the brain registers a broad range of activities throughout the body, and a single movement pattern must be drawn from this complex registry. The first stage is to record the brain’s patterns of the amputee’s memory of how to move the arm using an EEG. The sensitivity of these signals to external stimuli, such as blinking or light, then has to be measured.

In order for the prosthetic to work, the device will need both electronic and mechanical components to activate it, as well as a system that can translate signals from the brain into actual movement. The team is currently finalizing the material, which will be used to develop the prosthetic arm. This is crucial as it must be the same weight as a real arm; between 2-3 kilograms.

This research marks breaking ground in the field of neuroprosthetics because it permits direct communication between the brain and prosthetic device connected to it. In a few decades time, imagine where neuroprosthetics can lead us. It’s rather extreme, but perhaps in the future, we can function with only our brains implanted into an entire BCI robot?
