Elon Musk compares Canadian PM Justin Trudeau to Hitler

0

Elon Musk tweeted and later deleted a meme comparing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Adolf Hitler.

The Tesla Inc . chief executive’s tweet came in response to a CoinDesk article about the Canadian government sanctioning dozens of cryptocurrency wallets tied to funding trucker protests in the country.

The TESLA & SPACE-X founder has been criticised by the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum for comparing the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, to Adolf Hitler.

“Using the image of Adolf Hitler & therefore exploiting the tragedy of all people who suffered, were humiliated, tortured & murdered by the totalitarian regime of Nazi Germany created by him is sad & disturbing,” the museum tweeted in reply to Musk.

The American Jewish Committee said the billionaire’s tweet was unacceptable and demanded he apologise. “Once again, Elon Musk has exercised extremely poor judgment by invoking Hitler to make a point on social media. He must stop this unacceptable behaviour,” it said.

“Musk may believe posting a meme comparing Justin Trudeau to a genocidal dictator who exterminated millions is an appropriate way to criticise policies he disagrees with. It is not. It never is. Musk must apologise and find other ways to voice his displeasure.”

Musk did not respond to the AJC or the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum, but posted another tweet that suggested his Twitter followers read a book about the economic history of Nazi Germany for “an in-depth explanation”.

The world’s wealthiest person, with a $236bn (£173bn) fortune, made the original post in response to reports that Canadian authorities had ordered banks to block cryptocurrency donations to anti-vaccine protesters.

Musk has frequently spoken out in favour of the Canadian trucker protests against Covid-19 mandates. Last month he posted a photo of the long line of trucks and tweeted: “Canadian truckers rule”. In another post he said: “If Canadian government is suppressing peaceful protests, that’s where fascism lies.”

The Tesla boss also accused the US financial regulator on Thursday of targeting him with a “harassment campaign”, which he said was designed to “chill” his criticism of the US government.

In a court filing, his lawyers accused the Securities and Exchange Commission of “targeting Mr Musk and Tesla for unrelenting investigation largely because Mr Musk remains an outspoken critic of the government; the SEC’s outsized efforts seem calculated to chill his exercise of first amendment rights”.

The filing is part of Musk’s attempt to persuade the SEC to distribute $40m (£29m) in fines that he and Telsa paid to the regulator over misleading tweets in 2018.

The SEC sued Musk after he tweeted he had “funding secured” to potentially take his electric car company private at $420 a share. In reality, a buyout was not close.

Tesla and Musk settled by agreeing to each pay a $20m fine, and to let the carmaker’s lawyers vet his tweets that could affect its stock price. Musk’s lawyer said the SEC had committed to returning the $40m to Tesla shareholders, but had failed to yet do so.

Pfizer Secretly Says: ‘Unfavorable Clinical Or Safety Data’ May Impact Business

0

Two weeks ago, the FDA begged a Texas judge to delay production on the first monthly batch of 55,000 pages of Covid-19 vaccine data submitted to the agency by Pfizer. Originally, the agency was set to produce just 500 pages-per-month.

Now, Pfizer – which just forecast $54 billion in Covid-related sales in 2022, appears to be anticipating some bad newsas evidenced by several redline changes in their Q4 earnings releases.

As Rubicon Capital’s Kelly Brown notes on Twitter, the changes center around disclosures of unfavorable safety data.

For example, in Q4 they added: “or further information regarding the quality of pre-clinical, clinical or safety data, including by audit or inspection.”

More from Brown, who notes that Pfizer is now highlighting “concerns about clinical data integrity…”

The company also notes that Covid-19 may “diminish in severity or prevalence, or disappear entirely.”

What’s behind the curtain, Pfizer?

Keanu Reeves Grabs an Ice Cream, Tips VERY Well, and Poses With Fan in Northern California

0

You’ve got to give it to him. Keanu Reeves is an actor who continues to impress—and not necessarily on the basis of his acting skills but by just how, well, normal the man is.

For an actor whose net worth is an estimated $360 million it’s no small feat. One could easily expect Reeves to be surrounded by a massive entourage and bodyguards keeping his fans at bay, but it’s simply not the case. Keanu insists on living as normally as possible.

Keanu, who shot to fame following his roles in the Bill & Ted films, is arguably now at the peak of his career. And fans are lapping up every little bit of Keanu they can get.

Such was the case when the 55-year-old actor was filmed by a fan eating an ice cream cone as he sat alone on a concrete planter outside of a Baskin-Robbins in Alameda, California. He then graciously posed for a photograph with the fan, who has been identified by NBC Bay Area as Yahoska Martinez. Martinez later said:

He was super humble and super nice!! Very chill dude.

According to KVTU, workers at the Bay Area ice cream franchise were star-struck when the actor came in to buy a scoop of ice cream. One employee said that her co-worker “freaked out after he served him. He didn’t know how to act.

Naturally, Keanu left a tip that was reportedly very generous. After all, this is a man who gifted the stunt crew of The Matrix series with brand-new Harley-Davidson motorcycles just because he wanted “to give a bigger thank-you to all these guys” who made the film such a success.

It’s also believed that Keanu was in the Greater San Francisco area because filming has begun for the third sequel in the wildly popular Matrix series. Variety reports that production was slated to begin at the beginning of 2020, and the San Francisco Film Commission also records that a major film project with the working title “Project Ice Cream”—we kid you not—has scheduled shoots in February.

Keanu has expressed his enthusiasm for the project to Entertainment Tonight, telling the publication, “It’s very ambitious. As it should be!

Write and director Lana Wachowski will also be returning alongside fellow Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss.

Wachowski was a co-director of the first three films with her sister Lilly.

In a statement, Lana said:

Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.

We’re definitely excited for the new Matrix film … but we’ve got to admit, we’re also interested in seeing where the notoriously private star will turn up next!

The accident happened after a fuel tanker collided with a bus, which was coming from Harare, Zimbabwe.

The fatal accident occurred between a popular leisure spot dubbed Romeo’s and a tollgate along Mutare Harare highway claimed five lives whilst 60 others were injured.

Butau got props from all corners of the southern African nation as he was one of the first responders to the accident and managed to save the lives of several passengers who had been trapped inside the bus from being burnt.

Writing Sunday on his twitter account with the user name dubbed @edmnangagwa , Mnangagwa confirmed his government’s intention to honour Butau’s audacious actions.

“Let me take this opportunity to appreciate Sirizani Butau who saved people from the Mutare accident. As government will honour him for his selfless sacrifice,” Mnangagwa said.

In a statement Sunday on condolences Mnangagwa said he was impressed by life-saving efforts demonstrated by Butau and others after the traffic mishap.

“In wishing a speedy recovery to all those recuperating from injuries and burns from this horrific traffic accident, I am heartened by the life-saving and public spiritedness shown by other road users and communities who witnessed the fatal mishap.

“In particular, I was struck by outstanding bravery of one of our citizens, Sirizani Butau, who sacrificed personal safety to help with the rescue effort, in the process sustaining several burns and injuries,” he said.

Mnangagwa added: Without him and many others who rose to the occasion, many more lives could have been hurt or even lost. Our nation honours such great deeds which should never go unnoticed and unappreciated. Indeed, these deeds cultivate and impart great compassion to our Nation, this confirming our humanity as people.”

Three people were burnt on the spot of the fatal accident beyond recognition.

As of Saturday official information stated that at least 40 people who were admitted at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital have since been discharged.

Several occasions have pledged to provide their products to Butau as an appreciation for his life-saving efforts after the horrific accident in Mutare.

Breaking News: Cannabis To Be Legalized In Germany

After weeks of speculation, the German parties in talks to form a new government have agreed on plans to legalise recreational weed, reports in the German media have revealed. Here’s how they want to go about it.

What’s happening?

Since October, the three ‘traffic light’ parties – so called after the party colours of the Social Democrats, Greens and FDP – have been hard at work thrashing out the details of a possible future government in Germany.

According to reports in Spiegel, they’ve now managed to agree on one crucial question: the legalisation of cannabis.

It was no secret that all three of the parties were in favour of ‘freeing the weed’ ahead of the election. In fact, each of them had envisioned doing so in one form or another in their pre-election manifestos.

Nevertheless, there were clearly different visions on the table on how to do so, with the FDP’s Christian Lindner suggesting in October that prescriptions might be needed to obtain cannabis over the counter at pharmacies.

In recent days, however, the coalition’s working group on health and social care has confirmed that the parties have managed to agree on a model for legalisation. The results of the negotiations were detailed in a report obtained by the Funke Media Group.

Are we talking about medical or recreational cannabis?

In this case, the parties are keen on legalising the recreational use of cannabis, which means using it to get high rather than for any medical benefits such as pain relief.

Medical cannabis has been legal in Germany since 2017, but recreational weed smokers have generally had to resort to purchasing it illegally on the black market or smuggling it across the border from the neighbouring Netherlands.

Will Germany get its own Netherlands-style coffee shops?

Though nothing has been finalised yet, the latest media reports suggest that this is the type of model that Germany is looking to introduce.

“We are introducing the controlled distribution of cannabis to adults for consumption purposes in licensed shops,” the parties wrote in the negotiation paper seen by the Funke Media Group.

That means that cannabis users can purchase weed in specially licensed premises without needing a medical prescription of any kind.

Opting for a licensed-shop model will allow the government to check the quality and contents of the products being sold – a process known as “drug-checking” – and also introduce measures to combat addiction and prevent underage drug use.

At the same time, the parties want to tighten up regulations on marketing and sponsoring for alcohol, nicotine and cannabis.

“We always measure regulations against new scientific findings and align health protection measures with them,” the committee states in its report.

The incoming government plans to conduct a review of the new policy after four years to assess its impact and make improvements.

Why would politicians want to legalise cannabis?

It’s no secret that legalising cannabis could be a smart financial decision for cash-strapped governments. According to recent estimates by Justus Haucap for the German Hemp Association, the move could bring in as much as €4.7 billion to the treasury each year.

This sum is largely made up of additional tax revenues, but also includes savings in the judicial system from no longer having to prosecute weed users.

However, the three traffic-light parties say their motivations aren’t primarily financial.

Instead, they believe controlled sales of cannabis would dry up the illegal black market and funnel weed through regulated channels, allowing products to be screened for harmful substances and enabling better protection of minors.
