Pharma CEO Publicly Admits Working For Profit For Shareholders And Not Helping The Sick

10

It is now clear that pharmaceutical companies are not working to help save the sick. This has long been suspected by many concerned social commentators and activists who are against the fraud, injustice and the general conspiracy by corporations and our governments.

However, when a ‘honest’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) informed the public that his company is working in the interest of shareholders—essentially making profit without considering the plight of its customers—the issue became a much more troubling issue.

The Usuncut reports that in September 2015, Martin Shkreli, CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, became a household name after he admitted in an interview that his company was not alone in acquiring drugs that were currently on the market, in order to raise their price and drive up their stock price. This was after Turing Pharmaceuticals had raised the price of a newly-acquired drug to $750 a pill.

p 2

Soon after public outrage began to subside around Shkreli’s admission, another CEO stirred a similar controversy. This time, it is even deeper than the previous.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals chief, Michael Pearson has said in an interview on CNBC, that his company’s responsibility is to its shareholders and not the customers who rely on the drugs the company produces.

If products are sort of mispriced and there’s an opportunity, we will act appropriately in terms of doing what I assume our shareholders would like us to do,” Pearson said.

Already this year, Valeant has increased the price of 56 of the drugs in its portfolio by an average of 66 percent, highlighted by their recent acquisition, Zegerid, which they promptly raised by 550 percent. Not only does this place the price of life-saving drugs out of reach for even moderately-insured people, but it has now begun to call into question the sustainability of this rapidly-spreading business model.

p 3

According to statistics, since Pearson became CEO in 2008, Valeant has acquired more than 100 drugs and has seen their stock price rise more than 1,000 percent.

Not satisfied with what he had already said, Pearson continued to weakly defend his company’s practice of acquiring drugs instead of investing in research, development and working on activities that will improve relations and the welfare of customers. He boldly said to the news channel, “My primary responsibility is to Valeant shareholders. We can do anything we want to do. We will continue to make acquisitions, we will continue to move forward.

p 1

Many activists and commentators have called for an investigation into the comments made by Pearson. It is said the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, is planning to issue a writ ordering both Turing and Valeant pharmaceuticals to appear before it and explain why there has been such a high price increase on their drugs.

However, as that has not been done, the companies are continuing their profit-centered policy, ignoring the concerns and plight of their very customers that make them who they continue to be. In addition, even if this summon by the House is held, it is unlikely the companies will reduce the prices they have already increased.

  1. If this was ever an example of corporate apathy towards people, especially sick and dying people, this is it. The very foundation of world problems, and this is an example….Apathy, Greed, and a total disregard for human beings. I find this whole premise sad and disgusting. And people will say this is a sign of the times…………….This leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and I think these type of people are repugnant and shameless!!

    • My brother says, you can either be a wolf or a sheep. You gotta climb to the top so you wont be the one to suffer.

My brother was the only one out of the five of us not to be abused, never had responsibilities, was allowed to do what ever he wanted. He also would harass and abuse his 3 year old brother whom he was 7 years older than.

Those are the types of people who run our country and corporations. My brother thinks it’s because they are smarter and stronger, as he likes to think of him self. But the reality is they have no appreciation for their privilege. If they did they would realize they are not smarter or stronger they just had an advantage. Their egocentric personalities wouldn’t be so grandiose, which would limit their greed and apathy. Unfortunately everyone is afraid of being the victim and so they buy into this sheep wolf mentality. Our culture has been main streamed and we now glorify this mentality. As if you jump on the wagon you will become a wolf. In reality the powerful don’t care what you are or think you are because they are parasites, they will suck you all dry. You might make a little money in the process but your quality of life and humanity will suffer

  2. So now it seems Americans have reached the point of no return. If the CEO publically admits and the facts prove that these companies are corrupt and americans can just sit back and ignore this fact and not demand justice, than there really is no hope left for the people of this nation, and those that decide to stay here and do nothing about it, will all surely suffer in one way or another at the hands of the elite. I don’t know why or how people can just sit around and let this happen and all they can do is complain but want nothing to do to help fix the problem. American people’s laziness has now become the biggest problem on earth. When will we as a whole WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!! Anyone that disagrees with these statements should just end their miserable lives so that humanity can evolve once and for all, don’t worry we wont mind or feel sorry for you anymore.

    • They really need to WAKE THE FUCK UP. Because if they don’t they’ll just drown in their own self-pity and laziness. If they had the guts, like the Syrian’s did when they fought against Assad’s regime at the beginning of all this world chaos, they’d spark a civil protest, and if need progress to civil war to gain back the rights that they so easily let there own government strip from them.
Wake the fuck up America, grab your balls and dive into the chaos, because the only way to see the brighter future is to escape the fog of totalitarianism. Either that or be consumed by the greed your own society created.

  3. This is no surprise. These companies have been doing this for years! The biggest problem in this world is over-population, why would the WHO want to cure cancer or any of the other big killers? This is why they are allowed to continue. Wake up

    • WHO just released major studies proving that meats cause cancer. Considering meats and processed foods are the leading cause of disease I suppose they realize that this information which have known about for a long time is because of karma. Feeding us meat and dairy telling us the opposite of the truth has completely backfired as now the leading cause of the destruction of the planet has been proven to be animal agriculture. I assume this is their way of attempting to clean up their mistakes without bringing forth the realization in our citizens that our meat consumption is the leading killer of life upon the surface of this plant, as well as our plants and oxygen through deforestation and phyto plankton through the poisoning of the ocean from the trillions of pounds of animal feces we flush into the sea. Whoopsie. I suppose this is why the UN is attempting to make up for their mistakes for once supporting this same nonsense they once believed was the most ideal form of population control. Funny how that backfired. Guess karma is a real thing. Thank goodness for the animals cuz ain’t none of them wanna live in factory farms anymore, that’s for sure!

  4. The reality is that the CEO must remain amoral, or he will be quickly replaced by an amoral substitute. You can blame the executive all you want, but if (s)he does not maximize profits, financing will get expensive, and his replacement will arrive to maximize the profits. It is simply the capitalistic system that he (and we) are operating under. Changing the CEO or the company will not fix anything, just substitute the next amoral profiteer for the last one. Capitalism needs raw material, and we are it.

  5. A part of the problem is that even healthy ppl rely pharma drugs for every minor illness. The drugs publicity has become part of the culture. The pharmas are hand and glove with physicians.Doctors put you on drugs though you are healthy, its a known practice. They said they want u get better faster but its a lie,you all know.I you wont abuse your body it will heal itself of most of the illness.Open your eyes dont fill their pockets…
