PROOF: An Eyewash & A Sham, MTV’s ‘Pimp My Ride’ Was Staged

Former contestants of MTV’s Pimp My Ride show have revealed to The Huffington Post that the show, which promised the owners a complete makeover of their cars, was bogus. Three of the owners who got their cars pimped – Jake Glazier from Season 4 and Seth Martino and Justin Dearinger from Season 6 – said that the custom features installed by Xzibit and his crew didn’t work, messed up their cars, or were fitted only for the TV.

Justin Dearinger’s pop-up champagne contraption was uninstalled soon after the show because Xzibit didn’t want to condone drinking and driving; his drive-in theatre was removed for not being street safe. Five years after the show, his pimped car burst into flames.

LED lights put in the seats and television screens in Seth Martino’s car never worked post the shooting of the episode. After a month, Seth had to save money to replace the engine. Jake Glazer sold his car after a month and the new owner informed him that it had already blown out.

Jake revealed that the excitement reactions were faked and re-shot many times at houses rented by MTV but shown as contestants’ homes. They had to coax him to go ‘ape shit’ as his natural reaction to being genuinely excited. The director had told Justin to ‘be more energetic and jump around and scream’.

Here’s more…

  • The show made it look as if the cars were in the garage for a weekend or a week or two, but they actually spent about half a year in the garage before given back to the owners.
  • The damage of the cars in the pre-pimped stage was exaggerated.
  • The backgrounds, interests and passions of the contestants were made up.
  • Flashy features were added to the cars such as chandeliers and pool tables but the vehicles weren’t roadworthy after that.

  1. wow, im glad i dont watch mtv anymore nowadays, if this is fake what else is fake? teen mom? jersey shore? i dont believe much anymore of mtv.

  2. If you find out this MTV stuff is fake you are very ignorant. How do we still talk about this in 2015? @Cyka, everything is fake, MTV, Discovery you name it.

  3. I remember in the early days, MTV was “music television”

These days it seems to stand for Moron TV…

About time it was taken around the back of the barn and put out of it’s misery don’t you think…?

  4. They are all fake….. what you named and maury, jerry springer, judge judy, basically every “reality/talk shows” are fake

    • Actually had an old friend go on the bill Cunningham show I used to think it was real fake but I know for a fact that’s real now.

  5. dosent surprise me the slightest really in xzibits song “1983” on the album napalm he says he he hated how mtv played him like a mokary and to get his sence of mind back he fulfilled his effn contract and he felt it was a assassination of his character just to make a mill in america but due to his contract he couldnt atchly talk about the show directly-

    • dude what is atchly? Do you mean actually? and Mokary? do you mean Mockery? Do you have spell check or just type as you hear it? I don’t mean to be a grammar Nazi but you’re on a computer spell check is built in.

  6. Was cast as an extra on naked vegas, a show about body painting. The episode I appeared on was supposedly about a party put together by two steampunk fans for their favorite new comic artist. So here we are in this giant house rented just for this by producers with tons of people hired by producers who pretty much nobody knew the author or the hosts.

I’m sitting there with my girlfriend for 3 hours (was supposed to be $20 for an hour shoot) and the cheap bastards didn’t even have bathroom or water breaks while I’m sitting there pretending to sip tea from an empty cup while dying of thirst.

    Tv. Is. All. Staged.

And for that matter that’s why most anything legit is union. If you’re off the street you get fed bs and sent out the door with less than what you agreed to.

  7. No wonder, they never touched an engine & put tv screens in ridiculous places(a side fender…)
The show was a joke to anyone who was old enough to drive.

  8. MTV called me back on my 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente but dropped me cause of my age 29 saying the cut off age is 23 I was so bummed years later I found out they up had done some older guys car 🙁

  9. If anyone thought any of that show was real I feel bad for them. If you have ever had your own car (and not just spent 5 hours learning how to replace windshield wipers), you would understand without a second thought that half of what they did was unrealistic and would never work in a vehicle long term if at all. That and any half ass real modder would never do 95% of the crap they did, even if they wanted a ricer at the end.

As far as all other shows are concerned… it’s the nature of entertainment. Do you really thing house hunters would actually write a show where you spent 1-5 years watching a couple try to decide on a house? No, they found people who were already buying a home, used family and friends to stage property showings, etc. so they could give you a glimpse of what house hunting entailed.

  10. I knew this show was fake from the start. I just enjoyed all these different vehicles being pumped out of work. Anyone else play the game? It was more fake than the tv show its self

  11. jackass was the only real show mtv ever put out there
and even so they took that off the air quick
this and jackass are the proof that mtv stages every show now just for profit

  12. And you wonder why Xzibit is in heavy debt with the American IRS? Really? The guy’s poorer than me, and I’m just your average Canadian brother like no other.
