CALIFORNIA – An “active shooter” has shut down a military hospital overnight in San Diego, while a sweep of the building has come up with no evidence that a shooting has occurred.
Local police, and the California Highway Patrol have assisted Navy patrol K9 with the search of the perimeter since the alert was first raised on Facebook claiming shots fired from the Naval Medical Center basement.
“They did an initial sweep and they didn’t find anything, so they are doing a more thorough sweep,” Navy spokesman John Nylander said. “They have not located any evidence of a shooting having taken place.”
Police rushed to the scene after a Facebook post warned people to lock themselves safely away or fight. “An active shooter has just been reported in building #26 at Naval Medical Center San Diego. All occupants are advised to run, hide or fight,” the hospital posted.
The nearby San Diego Naval Base also posted online information of a possible shooting.

Reports have come in from local news station CBS8 that police had confirmed shots fired outside of Building 26 on the hospital’s third floor, where the K9 unit have now been deployed.
“Apparently someone said they heard three shots in the basement of Building 26. Maybe they did or not is not the point, that’s what they reported so that’s why we responded accordingly,” Nylander has stated. “We haven’t gotten any reports of any injuries.”
