Why Steve Jobs Refused To Receive Liver Transplant From His Friend

As you may or may not know, before he died, Steve Jobs was suffering from pancreatic cancer and doctors said he would have to undergo a liver transplant as soon as possible if he wanted any hope at living. Jobs started looking for a person who could help him but, as luck would have it, the person found him and offered him a portion of his liver. Jobs refused the offer and said:

“No, I’ll never let you do that. I’ll never do that.”

The man who offered a portion of his liver to Steve Jobs was… the present CEO of Apple, Tim Cook!

“Somebody that’s selfish…” Cook said, “…doesn’t reply like that. I mean, here’s a guy, he’s dying, he’s very close to death because of his liver issue, and here’s someone healthy offering a way out. I said, ‘Steve, I’m perfectly healthy, I’ve been checked out. Here’s the medical report. I can do this and I’m not putting myself at risk, I’ll be fine.’ And he doesn’t think about it. It was not, ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ It was not, ‘I’ll think about it.’ It was not, ‘Oh, the condition I’m in . . .’ it was, ‘No, I’m not doing that!’ He kind of popped up in bed and said that. And this was during a time when things were just terrible. Steve only yelled at me four or five times during the 13 years I knew him, and this was one of them.”

This friendship and love between Tim Cook and Steve jobs is revealed in the upcoming biography, “In Becoming Steve Jobs,” written by Veteran Technology. This new biography will be released on March 24th, 2015.

  1. Who cares what does it prove. He also lived for a time in an unfurnished house because he was not sure how to set it all up. He lived in his ‘head’ most of the time. He was however, intuitive as indicated by his finger tips. I imagine he just felt it was a wrong decision. I do not believe it was for reasons the article says.
