The Summit County Animal Control shelter in Ohio achieved the seemingly impossible, and adopted out 100 homeless pets in one fell swoop Saturday, Nov. 7. The group charged an adoption fee of $10 per cat or dog, decreased for the single-day event from $94 per dog and $60 per cat. This adoption fee covers the expense of vaccinations and neutering or spaying the critters.
“This is my dream…that all dog pounds will be empty some day,” said shelter volunteer Macee on Facebook. “Thank you SCAC, their volunteers and the dogs, for staying the course. We will miss each of you.”
The success of this “adopt-a-thon” will allow the shelter to open its doors to a new wave of homeless canines and felines in the area. The Akron, Ohio facility has operated since 2010.
“We have witnessed how a single good picture shared and reshared helps so many local lost or homeless pets get redeemed, adopted or transferred to rescue faster,” states Friends of Summit County Animal Control on their Facebook page. “It’s ALL about getting these deserving pets their Golden Ticket (adoption)!”
