VIDEO: Militarized Police Turn Peaceful Native American Protest Into a War Zone

North Dakota — Following the activation of the North Dakota National Guard on September 8, peaceful Dakota Access Pipeline protests quickly became flooded with militarized law enforcement. Native American activists, or “water protectors,” have been standing in the way of the pipeline’s construction for months, successfully blocking it at the Sacred Stone camp near the Missouri River.

When the situation initially took a turn for the worse earlier this month, journalists on the ground who were broadcasting live video complained Facebook was blocking their streams. Now, videos and images from Wednesday are emerging that show an overwhelmingly militarized response to the peaceful prayer and protest.


In the video, law enforcement can be seen using armored vehicles (MRAPs), shotguns, assault rifles, riot gear, tear gas, and helicopters to disperse the protesters. The police have turned peaceful prayers and acts of civil disobedience into a what now resembles a war zone. The Morton County Sheriff’s department confirmed to Anti-Media that 21 water protectors were arrested Wednesday. Several water protectors at the scene said a plane was used to drop tear gas — or some other form of crowd dispersants — on the group, though the Morton County Sheriff’s department has deniedthese allegations.

 


The protests are rooted in the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s concerns that the Dakota Access Pipeline would pollute the area’s water supply and violate tribal treaties. Hundreds of Native American tribes have joined the blockade in solidarity. Landowners also joined the ongoing demonstrations after their land was seized through eminent domain to build the pipeline.

The protests received mainstream news coverage after the Department of Justice ordered a halt to construction on land owned by the Army Corps of Engineers.   4. PEOPLE IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP EVERYONE BEFORE IT TRULY IS TOO LATE! Never has watching a video caused such an emotional and physical reaction in me like this one did. I am literally shaking with intense anger, as i write this. I am ashamed of all of the law enforcement, government officials, politicians and or military personnel involved in any aspect of what i just watched being green lighted!
    They all should take a good long look in the mirror and make sure they are happy with the person that’s staring back at them. How do they sleep at night I will never know. Spraying the crowd with tear gas from a crop duster and drawing weapons on people who have NONE themselves is despicable and distressing. Since when did it become ILLEGAL to protest in this country! WE WERE FOUNDED BY AND FROM PROTEST AND PUBLIC OUTCRY!
    Has America lost its soul? Its sense of right and wrong? People before Profits needs to be our motto throughout this land. I have been unhappy with decision made by our government, military, and political figures. But I have never been made totally pist and completely disgusted by those entities … until now. Shame on main stream media for not showing this on the nightly news and allowing this to stay mostly under the radar.
    I am sickened by the actions of our government and I am horrified that we have taken such tactics on a proven PEACEFUL protest group like this one and treating them like they were criminals. THEY ARE NOT!
    THEY ARE OUR FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, FRIENDS, FAMILY MEMBERS, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY FELLOW AMERICAN BROTHERS & SISTERS! I WOULD DIE FOR THIS COUNTRY AND IT’S ORIGINAL IDEALS.
    BUT TODAY I AM ASHAMED OF OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CRAP! YOU CAN AND WILL BE REPLACED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY YOU DONT CARE ENOUGH ABOUT DOING WHATS RIGHT TO DO THE RIGHT AND JUST THING HERE. to me that is an undeniable failure to do the job you were hired for!
    STOP BOWING TO THESE EVIL CORPORATIONS. YOUR CHILDREN AND GRAND CHILDREN WILL BE EFFECTED BY THE DECISIONS YOU MAKE FROM HERE. STOP SILENCE. YOUR ALLOWING THIS TO OCCUR. THEY DO THAT BECAUSE THEY KNOW 99% OF AMERICANS ARE TOO BUSY BEING OBSESSED WITH FACEBOOK, AND PLAYING GAMES ON OUR COMPUTERS, OR JUST SITTING ALONE ALL THE TIME ON THESE BOXES LOOKING AT THINGS THAT MAKE US LAUGH THAT PEOPLE POST, OR WHAT SOMEONE MADE FOR DINNER TO GET AN IDEA OR TWO OF OUR OWN, OR TAKING SELFIES TO SHOW OFF TO ALL WHO SEE JUST WHERE WE WERE FOR VACATION, OR WHAT CELEBRITY WE GOT TO MEET, ITS MADNESS.
    I SAY THAT ONLY BECAUSE WHILE MOST ARE DISTRACTED WITH SUCH RIDICULOUS AND ANCIENT NOTIONS OF HATING SOMEONE WHO IS DIFFERENT FROM OURSELVES. IF WE CANNOT WAKE UP AND SEE THAT IT IS THOSE IN POWER WHO HAVE CREATED THE ENVIRONMENT WE NOW FIND OURSELVES IN. HATING SOMEONE BECAUSE THEIR SKIN COLOR IS NOT THE SAME AS YOURS, OR WHO THEY LOVE IS DIFFERENT THEN WHO YOU LOVE, OR THEIR SOCIAL OR ECONOMIC STATUS IS BETTER OR WORSE THAN YOURS. ITS ALL DIVISION. DON’T MATTER THE REASONS. THOSE WHO CARE ABOUT THAT STUFF, NEED TO BE FORCED TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN HOW TO BE HUMAN AGAIN!
    THE ELITES…ITS ALL THEIR DOING. OLDEST TACTICS IN THE WORLD, BEING USED AGAINST US YET AGAIN, AND EVERYONE IS TOO DISTRACTED BY IT ALL TO CARE IT SEEMS. THAT IS THE REAL INSANITY HERE. SAME OLD PROPAGANDA OF HATE BECAUSE THEY AREN’T LIKE YOU AND ME, SAME OLD TACTICS OF DIVIDE AND KEEP CONQUERED.
    WHAT SHOCKS ME, IS NOT THAT THEY ARE USING THIS CRAP ON US YET AGAIN, WHAT SHOCKS ME IS THAT ITS ACTUALLY WORKING BETTER THAN THEY COULD OF EVEN HOPED FOR! CANT YOU SEE ??? GOOD THEN REALIZE THE TIME IS NOW… TO PUT A STOP TO WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD. TO ARREST THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED THIS INSANITY BECOME OUR REALITY ALL OVER AGAIN. THOSE WHO DESTROYED AND DID HORRIFIC ACTS JUST SO THEY COULD COLLECT A PAYCHECK. WE ARE ALL THE SAME. WE ARE ALL HUMAN! WE ARE ALL THE SAME WHETHER YOU BELIEVE THAT OR NOT, DOES NOT MAKE IT UNTRUE!
