West Virginia Sheriff Candidate Busted Overdosing on Heroin

0

John Wayne Orem, a former State Trooper of ten years was running for Berkeley County West Virginia Sheriff. That is, until he overdosed on heroin twice in twenty four hours. Police responded to Orem’s residence to find him in the clutches of a heroin overdose. Emergency medical personnel gave Orem Narcan to save him from near death.

On scene was Corporal M.D. Gilmore, who was advised that EMS had responded to Orem’s residence the day before for similar circumstances. Gilmore found a plastic baggie in the toilet, as well as a spoon with a white residue on it. The residue tested positive for heroin. Orem was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. He was later released from custody and stated that he would at a later time, issue a “clear and concise” statement. He did advise, however, that “it is nowhere…close to what it seems.”

Orem’s candidacy, as the Republican candidate for Sheriff, only goes to show the hypocrisy that is seemingly common in today’s law enforcement culture.

Orem is not the only cop busted for drugs, recently. A simple Google search for “cop busted for drugs” uncovers over 23,000,000 articles highlighting some of law enforcement’s finest landing behind bars for narcotics. Some of the more egregious examples include Houston Police Officer Noe Juarez. Juarez was busted in 2016 for trafficking cocaine for a Mexican cartel. Juarez was previously awarded the prestigious cop of the year award from his department.

In March this year, a police officer with the Linndale Ohio police department, was busted as part of an MDMA and marijuana distribution ring. Jonida Alicka, a reserve officer, was busted as being the head of a drug trafficking ring funneling money and drugs between the Cleveland area and Canada. Alicka was eventually charged with federal trafficking felonies. Alicka was also caught using law enforcement databases to aid in her criminal enterprise.

The biggest bust of the year had to be the Bal Harbor Police Department in Miami, Florida. According to reports, the entire police department was caught running a money laundering operation. According to federal investigators, the department was using forfeiture law to seize money from drug dealers, resulting in over $55 million in seized assets. Although the money was seized, no arrests were ever made. The police busted the department after they made $28 million in cash deposits, which did not appear in any police or city records.

Police who use and sell drugs, believe that they are above the law. Beyond that, they believe they will not get caught, due to their general arrogance and perceptions about their role in society. John Wayne Orem has found out that he is not above the law. The people of Berkeley County should be grateful that the information surrounding this candidate came out now and not after he was handed a new badge and gun.
