Security professionals have discovered a malicious gaming application, which was available on Google Play Store, known as Black Jack Free. This application comes from the family tree of Ace card Android malware.

The good news is, Google removed the Black Jack Free application from the Google Play Store. However, if you have downloaded the malicious game, then you should uninstall it at once, update all passwords from your banking applications, along with the passwords of your social media accounts – or password managers themselves. Furthermore, check for another application that is installed by Black Jack Free called Cosmetiq, in the back-end. This can be found in the settings > Apps. Search for Cosmetiq or cosmetiq.fl, and once inside, ‘force stop’ the application and uninstall it.

However, like most gambling games out there, the Black Jack Free uses virtual currency, and while you are enjoying the game, the application is doing something more sinister in the background – stealing your money. Ace card and applications that are embedded with this malware silently install a second application in the background. It displays malicious windows over the legitimate applications such as banking applications, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, thus tricking its victim into entering their important information by what seems an official application. What’s worse about the situation is that such applications are available on Google Play Store.

If you are concerned about your financial credentials being stolen, then more bad news is on the way; the malware also has the power to intercept your messages and send them to someone else. The malware also has the ability to call anyone, locking the device, and can also wipe your system’s memory clean. Sadly, the malicious application had more than three thousand downloads before it was finally removed from the Google Play Store.
