When Martha Payne, a Scottish schoolgirl, created a blog in April 2012 to share with the world her thoughts and experiences of eating the non-nutritious crappy meals served at her school, little did she know that she will become an Internet sensation overnight with her blog reaching 2 million viewers within few weeks forcing politicians to ban her from taking any more pictures of her school lunches.

Martha started posting pictures of what the primary school kids were being fed everyday and then being expected to perform academically. Her blog, Never Seconds, was written up in Time, the Telegraph, the Daily Mail, and a number of food blogs; and got support from celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, whose series “Jamie’s School Dinners” kicked off school-food reform in England.

Instead of applauding her for bringing light to the poor quality of food that is being served to children in schools, politicians silenced her. However, after the decision angered the world community and created a storm on the Internet, school officials, including the education minister and the local council, changed their minds, reversing their ban on Martha’s postings.

In February 2014 Martha’s blog reached 10 million viewers. She has begun posting pictures of school dinners sent to her by children in Germany, Japan, Spain, Taiwan and the United States.  Her efforts have made school administrations change their meal programs. Because of Martha’s blog, the school council has announced that all students would be allowed unlimited servings of fruit, vegetables and bread.  The ban on Martha’s photos couldn’t silence her; it helped school kids get access to healthy, nutritious, organic and non- genetically modified food.

  1. are we talking about the burgers in the photo? Cause those look pretty good actually. And if thats what they are eating in Scottish Schools, then we should send them some pictures of what American school kids eat

    • I don’t think they mean good tasting. Still, as a high school student in America that looks like a pretty damn good lunch compared to the shit they shove down our throats in America.

      • Thats what i’m saying, the food we get served in Chicago’s suburbs is basically the same as prison food. The shit we had to eat didn’t even look like real chicken or beef.

        • You guys need to get over it take your own lunch to school if you are gonna bitch about it. In NZ they dont give you lunch at public schools. You take your own. Get over yourself.

          • no seriously. Shut the fuck up. If they’re gonna tell that i have the choice and the right to fail and not finish school and then have the damn mind to send the police to my front door when I don’t show up then they better fucking feed me While I’m there cause God knows they’re not using our tax money to “improve” education

          • no seriously shut the fuck up. If their going to tell me i have the choice and the right to “deny myself an education” and fail in life and not finish school then have the damn mind to send the police to my door when i choose not to spend my days in their brainwashing center then they better fucking feed me while I’m there cause God knows they’re not spending all our tax money to “improve” education

          • You know America isn’t all you think it is. I don’t know where people keep getting this “America is perfect” bullshit.
For some the school meal plan is the only meal they get in a day. So how about shut the hell up you don’t know someone else’s situation. He might not have food to pack and take to lunch and if they serve prison level shit he’s not getting a good 1 meal.

          • In the school systems around here, they are not allowed to take their lunch to school and closed campuses so the students cannot leave to buy their own

    • why, What food/meals do you get in America??? not all of the UK is like this by the way!!! it just varies between the un-healthy shit!! ahah ]]]]

      • The food we get served here in America, or at least Colorado, is very nonnutritious… We get fed such small portions that we’re either never full or we’re hungry the next class. They force us to take milk and a fruit or vegetable, and more than half the time the milk is nearly expired and the fruit is nowhere near ripe or too ripe, the vegetables are wilted. Most people can’t afford to take a lunch of their own, so we get free lunch or reduced lunch based on our parents’ incomes yearly. The only schools here in Colorado that I’ve seen that actually have good food are in Cherry Creek and that’s takeout pizza. Most schools here in Colorado have had to reduce their portions because of the influx of immigrant students, especially high schools. It gets bad here. I was reading an article not too long ago that stated that prison food has a higher nutritional value than school food in 27 out of 50 states here in America.

  2. Not that I disagree with this, but feeding children anything nutritious in school is about useless. If kids want to bring chips and soda and get fat, they’re going to regardless of what’s intended for them, and honestly, I would rather have my children eat protein-rich whole beef, lettuce that improves metabolism, and tomatoes full of vitamins than the soy shit with cheese they serve in American high schools.

    • Too bad that “whole beef” is full of antibiotics, hormones and a wide variety of toxic chemicals that cause a whole range of chronic diseases in our kids. Of course the soy “shit” is no better because it’s full of even more toxic chemicals. And we wonder why they can’t learn.

    • We can’t concentrate with or without junk food. It’s hard to concentrate when you have one teacher trying to “educate” 30+ kids per class. Having around, more or less, 6+ classes a day 5 days a week. Each year we get less school days, even worse food, and simple close minded teachers who are shown to “teach” us on a strict schedule and closed curriculum that in all reality, sets us up for complete failure.

  3. Ahhhhh, the good ol’ “if I can’t perform at some task in my life, it’s someone else’s fault” card. If you think the type of food you’re served for one meal at school is going to make the difference between you being a doctor, or being a garbage collector, then you’re never going to succeed in life anyway, because you’re thick as pig shit.

  4. Our food has become so crappy that most people probably don’t even realize that burgers such as shown in the picture are bad for you.
School dinners, soup kitchens, food banks, prison food – it’s all crap.

  5. You show a pic of food from The Habit which was just voted best burger chain in US. They have quality food albeit fattening but with natural meats and produce. Why would you make a colossal mistake like this?! Plenty of nasty school lunches to post. I question this source.

  6. Kids only take what they want!! Those posts of skimpy lunches are not telling you that what little they took was by theirbown choice. Besides that, how do people know thats not just what isbleft after they ate or threw some away?! I teach and I know kids get decent amounts unless they choose otherwise. I send my kids back for more when they do that. Maybe they need to take more and stop complaining.

  7. Quote: “The ban on Martha’s photos couldn’t silence her; it helped school kids get access to healthy, nutritious, organic and non- genetically modified food.”
You mean the ‘healthy, nutritious….food’ the government’s advisors rave on about??
    Hahahahaha!! Low fat and Carbs??
Well for your information the low fat and carbs nonsense that we are told is ‘healthy’ is NOT! It’s killing the population. ….a miserable and slow painful death! (GOOD) FAT RULES: CARBS KILL!!! Wake up and make your own decisions people because the authorities are committing mass murder!
