What’s a few war crimes between friends and allies, eh? After its purposefully-accidental bombing of a Doctors Without Borders hospital which was widely accepted as a war crime, the US has decided that it has much more in common with countries like Saudi Arabia.
Which is why it has decided to sell 1.29 billion dollars worth of arms… or 5,200 laser-guided bombs, 12,000 “general purpose” bombs, bunker busters, among other munitions and weapons. This comes on the heels of the sale of 11.25 billion dollars worth of warships to the nation.
“The proposed sale augments Saudi Arabia’s capability to meet current and future threats from potential adversaries during combat operations,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which is part of the U.S. Department of Defense, said.
Indeed, like the threat conveyed by this kid in Saudi’s human-rights-atrocities laden bombing of Yemen:
Or worse, GROUPS of evil children (sorry, it’s not real enough for some people unless we see it with our own eyes):
So, when a small group of people rise up against Assad, the US helps the rebels and ISIS suddenly pops out, and this is supposed to be for “democracy”; the same kind that turned a relatively rich Libya into a haven for slave-trading and terrorists.
On the other hand, when the Yemeni people are brutally crushed in an air-campaign that has targeted UN buildings, schools and hospitals (according to the UN, and NOT by the “Yemeni Observatory of Human Rights“) by a much richer middle-eastern Theocracy, where hangings, crucifixions, 1,000 lashes (even Jesus wasn’t lashed that much; he was possibly lashed about 4% as much as Saudi victims) and brutal amputations for “crimes” (such as being a hot-blooded young man) are common, the US’s response is:
“please carry on, you Democratic fun-loving chumps. Have a bomb, or two. On the house!”
Raed Jarrar, government relations manager for the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) said to Common Dreams: “Sending additional weapons to the Middle East will not stabilize the region or put an end to violence and extremism. Supporting proxy wars, interventions, and military occupations will only add fuel to the fire.“
“It’s also illegal under US and international law to transfer weapons to human rights abusers, or to forces that will likely use it to commit gross violations of human rights,” Jarrar continued. “There is documented evidence that such abuses have been committed by almost all of U.S. allies in the region.”
You see, Jarrar, the US doesn’t much care about this thing called “human rights”. Here’s the US’s definition of the term:
“Terrorists are not human. They have no rights. Anyone who opposes US interests is a terrorist. Any questions? You, over there <bang>. Any other questions?”
So, here’s what US arms will do: they will allow Saudi Arabia to continue bombing the sh** out of kids. Don’t take my word for it, the UN says that the Saudis had killed some 2,355 Yemeni civilians, maiming another 4,862.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that “almost two-thirds of reported civilian deaths had allegedly been caused by coalition airstrikes, which were also responsible for almost two-thirds of damaged or destroyed civilian public buildings.”
Which is why the NEXT UN Human Rights High Commissioner is gonna be… A Saudi too, replacing a Jordanian. Shut up and be a nice little lap-dog, UN.
Amnesty International is standing against it, amidst international calls for an arms embargo. The US simply middle-fingered the whole world and carried on its merry way.
Paul Shannon of the AFSC proposes that:
” the U.S., France and the west to cut off its support and vast weapons supplies to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf monarchies whose royal families have been responsible for the spread of the jihadist extremist ideology throughout the region.”
Congress could block it over the coming month, but that’s unlikely, and the Bombs for Children program will continue for another year of stunning success.
