Fighting for cultural respect and for the next generation – so that they don’t have to fight, is a representation of the new video made in New Mexico as an intelligent protest against Adam Sandler’s The Ridiculous 6 film. The Native America actors came together for their new project to tell their stories, after walking off the set for the Adam Sandler movie last April.
The film The Ridiculous 6, according to the actors was an offensive portrayal of the Apache culture. Boycotted, the film’s release coincided with the clip these actors produced, asking for respect and for the ridicule to stop stereotyping their belief system.
The Western style production of the film was set to become “a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of—but in on—the joke,” according to Netflix who defended the movie.
But those who took part in the original filming, didn’t see the funny side, with offensive Native American names like No Bra and Beaver’s Breath. Culturally inaccurate costumes were designed, and when repeated insults against Native American women and elders continued, the concerns were taken to the director, but dismissed.
“There were about a dozen of us who walked off the set,” film student Loren Anthony said in an interview with ICTMN. Initially Anthony had refused to do the movie until producers convinced him they had hired a cultural consultant to help represent the Natives in a tasteful light. “I was asked a long time ago to do some work on this and I wasn’t down for it. Then they told me it was going to be a comedy, but it would not be racist. So I agreed to it but on Monday things started getting weird on the set,” he said.
David Hill, a 74 year old member of the American Indian Movement also left the set. “We understand this is a comedy, we understand this is humor, but we won’t tolerate disrespect.”

I wasn’t going to watch this due to the controversy, and the fact that I don’t care for Sandler’s movies, until my Mexican-American (part Apache) wife talked me into it. We found that it is a cross between Sandler’s ridiculous style and Blazing Saddles. It is designed to offend EVERYONE! And it is hilarious! Anyone who would take anything in this movie seriously, needs to get their heads examined. It is a stupid, mindless, diversion from life; But, sometimes, we need that.
We live in a day and age where everyone is offended by everything! We are in an age where it’s okay to make fun of someone else, but when it comes back to us it’s just inappropriate. No one can take a joke anymore and is too sensitive. If Blazing Saddles hadn’t been made when it was, it would have NEVER been made. People need to learn to laugh at themselves.
Yea I so agree like “Good Morning Vietnam” with robin williams my not be native americans but you get the point right it is only comedy and people are way to Offended by everything its like a bunch of cry babies lol
Pride is a fickle thing. On one hand it motivates us inside to perform to higher levels of achievement. And on the other it transforms into a divisive wedge that simulates bigotry and prejudice. Dont take too much pride, in the feeling of “pride”. Be different but dont barter away your ability to ignore offensiveness. Everyone has the right to be offensive, but not everyone is being offensive just because people are offended. Being offended is a choice. Dont give up your right to hear what would be said to you. Because once you start the censorship, then there will always be someone else who gets to decide what you see.
I never liked that kind of brainless comedy. I don´t think there is anything wrong with my head.
He said those who take the movie seriously need to have their heads checked. Nothing to do with enjoying Sandler’s comedy or not.
Agreed it’s only for fun example “rob” the actor played a Mexican and “rob” is Chinese. I think it’s funny! Mexicans were made fun of too but you don’t see us making a big deal about it at all. Come on its all fun and enjoying the films, ifi met Adam to day and he told me to make fun of my own I would why cause we all love to laugh. “Just don’t be weak minded”
Censorship and the responsibility of the free speech is not the same thing you silly dummies. It’s not ok to repeat the same racist stereotypes all over again and think that it can be justified by making some jokes in the film that offend majorities too. Hollywood has already made major damage to minorities and when you keep force feedin that to the audiences who have not educated themselves about the issues or the real history of the natives. Then how can they critically view the movie as it’s “supposed” to be viewed? No they can’t and that’s the major problem of the minors. You don’t need to censorship yourself you only need to be human and defend those who are in the weaker position and give first some respect to them and the joking will come in a healthy way after that. Without the one way insult only policy.
Lol made typo its not major problem OF the minors ofc it supposed to be FOR minors. Ha
Is this about humour or is this about unkept promisses?
It’s easy to laugh about the others, and other culture. Who is ourselves in “we should laugh about ourselves”? Making big money in laughing about another culture that had been close to destroy doesn’t seem right to me.
The new predatory culture, dominant in our contries is destroying the human part in everyone of us. It’s does not make me laugh.
Best wishes for 2016, form Europa
