For the love of science, Norwegian physicist Andreas Wahl jumped off a building to explain Newton’s second law of circular motion and how objects with a centripetal force (which compels them to travel in a curved path) spin faster as they approach a central point.
As part of a show called Life on the Line, he hung 46 feet in the air from a pole – attached only to a rope with a kettlebell on the end, without any safety equipment – at an abandoned Norwegian warehouse. As he was free-falling towards the ground, the kettlebell caused the rope to wrap itself against a pipe, preventing Wahl from hitting the ground.
In the below video, Wahl demonstrated the experiment using a piece of string, a coin, and a coffee cup.
