If someone blames refugees for the attacks in Brussels, or supports Donald Trump in suggesting that Muslims are not doing enough to prevent attacks, these pictures of Syrian refugee children at a makeshift camp near Idomeni, at the Greek-Macedonian border; sharing a message of solidarity for the victims of the attacks, shows who has a big heart? Children who live on a foreign land in grim conditions, but who still empathize with unknown victims of terrorism; or politicians who use an act of terrorism to attack all Muslims, as well as send thousands of people to seek even more perilous ways to escape the horrors of war?

Idomeni is regarded as one of the worst refugee camps on the European migrant trail, which has increased in size following the closure of all borders to refugees in Macedonia. Panagiotis Kouroublis, the Greek interior minister, recently compared the conditions at Idomeni to Nazi concentration camps.
“I do not hesitate to say that this is a modern-day Dachau, a result of the logic of closed borders. Whoever comes here takes several blows to the stomach.”
Despite being planned for just 2,500 people, the camp hosts around 12,000 refugees – in wet, cold and muddy conditions. According to the British Red Cross, refugees at the Idomeni camp are facing dire conditions with lack of basic services; children there are suffering from scabies, influenza and dysentery.
