Herds Of Digital Sex Lovers Force Japan’s First Virtual Reality Porn Festival To Close Prematurely

Overcrowding and riot fears turned off Adult VR Fest 01, Japan’s first-ever event of its kind highlighting new virtual reality (VR) technologies relating to the adult [read porn] entertainment industry, in Tokyo’s Akihabara region.

Visitors looking to get their hands on a variety of quirky VR sex accessories and male-friendly sex toys that re-enact sexual acts, including a simulation headset which replicates sex with a women with the help of an inflatable doll, were left disappointed as the event was shut down early due to unprecedented popularity.

According to a Japanese blogger Eizo Wu, the venue proved too small to host the crowd of VR porn enthusiasts:

“The event didn’t start until 2 PM, so I went there in high spirits an hour before then, but the street was already overflowing with people. There were so many that it was almost impossible to keep the situation under control. While waiting for my friends, I couldn’t help but think that if they couldn’t control the mass of people, a riot or something similar could happen.

“The 20 lucky guys closest to the building were let in by staff. I’m sure there was a line inside the building that rivaled the one outside the building. For the Adult VR Fest, the unofficial waiting outside the building spanned both sides, so it was a real hell here.

“These people are the people putting their lives on the line for Adult VR. They don’t like this world, and they know women don’t see them in a good light. They have their own needs that have yet to be fulfilled, but they don’t want to bother anyone with them. Thus, they turn to a new world. Honestly, they’re wonderful people hoping for a brave new world, and they’ll finally have one soon enough.”

Here’s what Mashable wrote about some of the latest virtual reality sex simulating gadgets that were on display at Adult VR Fest 01:

Along with wearing a VR headset to look at porn, attendees also got to try out various sex toy contraptions, some of which are designed to simulate the sensation of grinding and groping of breasts. Other VR porn accessories included some kind of arm and hand-shaped device that presumably, uh, helps with masturbation.

Interest in virtual reality porn has increased significantly in recent years, with statistics from Google Trends revealing an insane 10,000% rise in Google searches for VR porn since 2014, and analysts expecting the adult VR industry to be worth $1 billion in the US by 2025.

“Virtual reality is the next phase in the constantly metamorphosing world of adult entertainment, and will provide users with a mesmeric experience unlike anything they’ve seen before,” Corey Price, vice president of Pornhub, said when the firm launched the VR category to its site in March.

Organizers are holding a bigger Adult VR Festival in August and by looking at the erotica enthusiasts that showed up in June, it is evident that the next event will be a super success too [at least in terms of number of porn lovers lining up to experience the latest inventions].
