This photographer wants to inspire conversation about humanity’s insatiable appetite for meat.

Though the long-held tradition of consuming meat is rarely challenged or contemplated by the average consumer, photographer Anja Grundboeck is bringing the conversation to the table this year – just in time for Thanksgiving in the United States. Considering over three hundred million turkeys are killed every year for the holiday, the topic of insatiable mass meat consumption is worth discussing.
The artist’s series, “meat lovers“, seeks to draw attention to exactly this. The gruesome photos (which are not for the faint of heart) depict humans in place of animals, strung up and being slaughtered before they’re cut up, packaged, and shipped to a supermarket. The photographer shared with Bored Panda:
“If one acknowledges humans and animals as equal living creatures, then our behaviour towards animals is more than questionable on an ethical and moral level.
To demonstrate what pain humans cause, “meat lovers” puts humans into the role of the animal. The images shall encourage humans to get a sense of the enormous effects on us and to critically question these.”

Didn’t go far enough. Animals aren’t afforded the luxury of underwear to cover their privates. I think the full nudity would have broke through to the helpless vulnerability at which the artist was aiming?

Unfortunately, people who eat meat won’t look except for those that come here for the wrong reason…to be negative. Many believe it’s their right to eat meat and believe that their two incisors mean they are carnivores by right. They are also angry, as though we are forcing them to change, but it’s earth itself that is forcing humans to change, not the vegetarians and vegans. I find poop doesn’t smell nearly as bad as it does when you’re a meat eater. That proves to me that the body wasn’t meant to eat meat.

The nipples are blurred, but not the blood. Again, the depiction of violence is more acceptable than nudity. All the media celebrate violence in all its forms, and the only time nudity is shown is whenever it’s pornographic.
