Anonymous Hacks Thai Premier Telecommunication Website

Anonymous have targeted a Telecom website in Thailand, leaking the government’s secret agenda in retaliation to the Thai policy to consolidate a single Internet gateway.

Anonymous have declared a cyberwar on the Thai government, with the main target of the attack being the state-owned company, CAT Telecom Pcl. The company, designated by the Prime Minister and cabinet to control the gateway, had its intentions leaked in a document last month, and was dubbed the “Great Firewall of Thailand,” by critics.

Authorities argued that the move would help to initiate a curb on “inappropriate” content, but the IT industry and the public argued otherwise. Slower Internet service and higher costs would be some of the run-off from the move, along with the curb on freedom of speech.

Anonymous have released a series of Tweets showing parts of thousands of CAT customer accounts, logins and passwords of government ID names. The CAT website was offline for several hours before the tweets started streaming early Friday.

However, Anonymous have also released from the hack attack previously undisclosed details regarding the single gateway plan.

“TelecomAsia has received a set of leaked documents that would suggest the Single Gateway project has been a priority and pushed by the highest levels of the army for years”, Mr Don wrote on Thursday. It listed documents dated as early as 2006, allegedly showing that the military has been deeply involved in a project for an “offensive defence” division to control the internet in Thailand. According to Mr Don, “One slide in particular listed target media that needed to be put under surveillance – Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, WordPress, Blogger, Flickr, Instagram and Tumblr.”

Anonymous have launched their Operation Single Gateway under #OpSingleGateway.

“…The latest project of the Thai military government is to deploy a single gateway in order to control, intercept and arrest any persons not willing to follow the Junta orders and your so called moral.

No interception systems ever stopped any terrorist attacks, neither any national security threats in Asia or any western countries. It only allows greedy governments and large corporations to get more profits and less freedom of speech for the people of this country.”
