The Anonymous group in Canada has forced the Halifax Regional Municipality Police in Nova Scotia to reopen the investigation of an alleged sexual assault case involving an 18-year-old girl.

According to Hack Read, the girl was attacked by a fellow student on Halloween night at a Dalhousie University frat house in Halifax.

And when the case was reported to the police, they never took it serious. The Halifax Police closed the case, and later said the victim did not want to proceed with the case, a statement the victim family has categorically denied.

The mother of the victim, fully convinced that the police will never investigate the case, decided to contact Anonymous Halifax for help.

Anonymous Halifax immediately proceeded to work to reveal the identity of the culprit. The group posted a video on YouTube, revealing the name, pictures, and phone number of the alleged perpetrator. Anonymous Halifax revealed the alleged rapist as a fellow student who goes by the name, Chris Apollo Toulany. That was the moment the case came back into the limelight again.

The video went viral instantly and garnered attention from everywhere, making people notice the blatant mismanagement of Halifax Police in the case. However, YouTube deleted the video and said “the content of the video violated their Terms of Service”. The video is still available on Facebook.

In an interview with representatives of Anonymous Halifax, the group explained why and how they decided to help the victim to get justice. Below is the interview Anonymous Halifax granted to the Hack Read:

Q: How did you know about the sexual assault?

A: We received a message in our inbox from the mother of the victim asking for help.

Q: When do you plan to expose the name of those behind the assault and will you make public the name of the victim?

A: The rapist is exposed in the video. We linked his father in the downed YouTube video. We will not expose the family more. The police are now doing their job! Thanks to the video and public pressure.

Q: If the police get lazy on the case do you plan for a cyber attack?

A: We are in daily contact with family, we know what the police will do next, they are slow but have protocol to follow, if they are not diligent in this case, we will drop all websites and possibly others… (Police have until Monday to press charges against rapist.)

Anonymous Halifax also released a statement warning: ”We want the world to know, we do not look for victims, when the police fail to act victims come to us. We knew the police would not press charges as we were told that by the mother initially. Police said ” Without victim co-operation , no charges !! So we blast him so other girls in Halifax know who the monsters are in the schools they attend!”

”We are the same hive who has been there for Rehtaeh Parsons family and we will support this family the same way! We support victims of sexual assault, it is never there fault and we are sick of the police victimizing the victim ! They know she was raped, they know she was in hospital after the violent attack, they got a partial rape kit……. We will help clean the streets of halifax by exposing the predators amongst us, no matter who likes it !!! We speak the truth so we do not fear repercussions !!! We have instilled confidence in victims in Halifax by giving them the support to name there attackers and know there is a “world ” of support !! We are that support , We are all Anonymous.”

The group also vowed to make sure that justice is served to the victim and her family in order to bring peace and serve as deterrent in Halifax.

Meanwhile, an official spokesperson of the Halifax Police, Lauren Leal said the police is not happy with the video which exposed the identity of the culprit.

Lean criticized Anonymous for accusing and revealing the identity of a person without any proof. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation quoted Lean as saying “There’s always a risk if something hasn’t been investigated, hasn’t been tested in court, you could have the wrong person. It’s dangerous and it’s just so irresponsible”.

According to observers, this is not the first time Anonymous has played a role in bringing a rape case to the limelight. In the past, Anonymous shutdown the Delhi Police website against the shocking gang rape of a girl in India.

Watch this space. Well will follow the case closely and bring an update as soon as there is something new. Expect Us!

  1. Thank you for making this violence against women a priority. Rape is unfortunately considered “the norm” on campuses. Thank you for being a beckon against this way of thinking.

  2. We will always protect the people of earth and the freedom of speech
    we are anonymous
    we do not forgive
    we do not forget
    WE ARE HERE!!!

  3. I sympathize with what you are doing, but you need an editor looking at your posts who knows the difference between there and their. Also, the phrase is “no matter who doesn’t like it,” not who likes it.

Little things, but they are important when communicating.

  4. If this comment makes me a target for those who do not listen then ce la vie, but as it stands the gentleman posted on the video according to HRMPD is not listed on any case as a suspect. The case number that was with the video and the officers name both have nothing to do with the poor man you falsely accused.

I hate rapist and pathetic vultures like most decent humans, but I will hold those who will damn an innocent man without proof, with the same contempt and distaste as it is no longer about justice but revenge, and at the end of the day we are a society of laws where due process is how we damn the guilty.

Anonymous I will continue to support your program of the enlightenment of the masses through honesty and truth, because it is the truth that will set us free.

  5. It seems that this organization is trying people before they go to court. Some of your followers on your website are already calling the accused in this rape case a serial rapist without being convicted of anything. One has to wonder after the video went viral whether the accused can get ever a fair trial and I am sure the accused lawyer will make an issue of this point.

I am against crime no matter who commits it, but also I am against any organisation that act as the court and a judge. If this person, is found at the end guilty, he should face the punishment as anybody else. However, if he is found innocent, I believe the accused family should take legal action against your organization. You may be anonymous to the public but not to the law authorities, and you should be declared a banned organization. Also, if the Halifax Police does not pursue this I believe legal action should be taken against them and I am many people, including myself, will contribute financial toward this cause.
