Fourth grader Toxey was devastated after none of the 21 classmates he invited showed up for his tenth birthday party on April 2. But what happened two days later, is something he will never forget – a birthday party of a lifetime.
Cpl. David Forthman of the Arkansas State Police, and troopers Terry Sawyer, Kyle Sheldon, Brandon Cook and Tim Callison, all heard about Toxey’s bad day, after Toxey’s mother Angela Andrews posted about it on Facebook.
“Just heartbroken and helpless. It’s the last thing you want to feel for your kid, that no one cared enough to come,” a disappointed Andrews wrote on the social networking site.
However, a caravan of five Arkansas State Troopers pulled up at Toxey’s home to throw him a surprise party – trooper style – on April 4. The kindhearted troopers brought him a cake, gave him several gifts from video games to a Frisbee and a razor scooter, played a game of basketball with him, let him play with Rino, the K-9, as well as their patrol cars.
Andrews took to Facebook again, this time to thank the men in uniform for their great gesture. She wrote:
I don’t even know where to start because thank you just doesn’t seem good enough! After I made a post Saturday about Toxey being disappointed that no one came to his birthday party, an Arkansas State Trooper heard about the post. What ensues is the stuff dreams are made of. This afternoon after Toxey got home from school, a caravan of 5 state troopers pulled up at our house, K-9 included. Not only did they bring him a birthday cookie cake, but they also brought him all kinds of presents, let him play with Rino, the K-9, and play with the sirens in their cars.
They ate his cake with him and played basketball with him. All out of the goodness of their hearts. They made this sweet baby’s day, his year!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never be able to repay the kindness you showed my family today!! Come on friends, let’s make these guys famous! They deserve to be recognized for the wonderful people they are!! Thank you Arkansas State Troopers!!!
Arkansas State Police shared Andrews’ post and added:
Cpl David Forthman, along with Troopers Terry Sawyer, Kyle Sheldon, Brandon Cook, and Tim Callison are the reason we become troopers. We all want to make a difference, and these troopers showed today that #kindnessmatters. We are so proud to call them ours, and thank you Angela for sharing this story with us!!!!
An overjoyed Toxey, who hopes to be an Arkansas State Trooper when he grows up, told THV11:
“They showed me all the keys to do the sirens and the horn. I also got to see the cage with the dog in it. They had come to give me all that stuff and make up their own birthday party for me. I cried a little bit because they did that for me. If I am remembering right, this is the only birthday that I have had with people coming.”
Although Toxey’s birthday was turned around, Andrews still has a message for other parents.
“Just please, if your kids get invited to birthdays, take them.”
