Coast Guard Part of One of the Biggest Busts in History, but Pay No Mind to the Missing 4,000 Pounds of Cocaine

1

After one of the largest drug busts in U.S. history, the Coast Guard seized over 16,000 pounds of cocaine from a makeshift submarine off the coast of California, yet they returned to shore with only 12,000 pounds.

In a press release this week the Coast Guard stated:

After removing 12,000 pounds of the narcotics aboard, the crew of Stratton attempted to tow the vessel to shore as evidence. However, the semi-submersible began taking on water and sank.”

Coast Guard representative, Charles W. Ray, later called the mission a success, stating:

Our success intercepting this drug-laden, self-propelled semi-submersible is a testament to the collaboration of our partner agencies and demonstrates the importance of our increased presence in the Western Hemisphere. Every interception of these semi-submersibles disrupts transnational organized crime networks and helps increase security and stability in the Western Hemisphere.”

The submarine was apparently found by a U.S. Navy aircraft about 200 miles south of the U.S. border with Mexico. Once the vessel approached shore, the Coast Guard seized it. Four suspects were arrested, and the estimated value of their cargo was around $181 million. While the Coast Guard claims the 4,000 pounds of cocaine was lost when the submarine allegedly sank on its way to shore, many became suspicious when the video of the confiscation was released, which shows no evidence that the vessel sank.

In a report from The Free Thought Project:

The war on drugs in an insult on the intelligence of the American people. There are mountains of evidence proving that the biggest importers of harmful, addictive, mind diminishing street drugs is the government. The drug laws that exist do not apply to the government agencies that bring these substances to our country. They are only designed to keep everyone else from this extremely lucrative business and give the establishment another reason to oppress people.

As The Free Thought Project points out, we’ve seen incidents such as this before during the alcohol prohibition when the government was working with law enforcement agencies and organized crime syndicates to make unbelievable profits in the black market. Once black markets are created, crime goes up, taxes go up, prices go up, and the police become even more corrupt.

In order to solve these problems, all we’d have to do is end all prohibitions which would cripple the black market, and drastically reduce violence.

This would also drastically reduce the reach of police and the state, in general, which is why it is looked at as such an impossibility. Drug laws don’t do anything to prevent drug problems in our society, they only encourage violence, raise prices and criminalize half of the population.
