These businesses are challenging the status quo by allowing – and even encouraging – their employees to use marijuana at the office.

Marijuana and work don’t mix, right? For a doctor, lawyer, or teacher, probably not. But for individuals whose job it is to create innovative apps and conjure solutions to modern-day conundrum, sometimes, yes.

This attitude has been adopted by a number of companies in states where the recreational use of cannabis is legal. In Denver, Colorado, for example, Flowhub – a software company founded last year – allows employees to consume edibles, sodas, and juices that contain THC (the component that will get one “high”) while at work. Co-founders Kyle Sherman and Chase Wiseman presumably don’t care if their employees eat more due to the effects of weed. Their main priority? Ensuring things get done.

”If it [marijuana use] helps our employees get work done, then we don’t care if they consume at work,” said Sherman.

Of course, only those who are 18 years or older get that privilege, reports CNN. Sometimes, the office will indulge in edibles before a meeting to inspire creativity. Sherman explains, ”It definitely surfaces new ideas and a fresh take on things.” As of yet, zero problems have resulted from marijuana use in the office.

Other companies that allow – and even encourage – their employees to use cannabis include High There! and MassRoots, which are social media sites for stoners. It makes sense that MassRoots would have a lenient position on the use of pot, as co-founder Isaac Dietrich was high when he came up with the idea for the company which has received $4.4 million in funding.

Studies have proven that marijuana doesn’t dumb down users or pose health risks. Additionally, 0 people die annually from using the herb, making it safer than alcohol and even pharmaceutical drugs. It’s because of this that stigma associated with the use of cannabis is lessening.
