Germany’s national intelligence agency, the BND has been accused of spying on top French officials and the EU headquarters, on behalf of the United States NSA, one report has stated in April this year.
German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizere denied any cover up that also had the BND allegedly spying on some European firms to see if trade embargos were being broken. However it has emerged that knowledge of these acts of NSA-BND spying has existed since 2008 when German TV reported on the “shortcomings” of the BND agency.
Thomas de Maizere was in charge of the foreign intelligence agency in 2008 when it began to emerge that European aviation, aerospace and defense companies were on the list for surveillance by the NSA-BND partnership. Since then, the massive scale of NSA surveillance in Europe had been revealed by Edward Snowden, provoking a world wide debate about privacy and security issues.
