Injured Man Tortured And Threatened In Custody, Before Being Choked To Death By Cops

Calvon Reid, 39, died recently after being threatened, abused, tasered and physically attacked by a number of Coconut Creek Police Officers. According to two eyewitnesses, Reid was hurt and wanted to go to the hospital. The residents of Wynmoor Village complex then called 911 for the paramedics. Along with the paramedics, five cops turned up at the scene and started arguing Reid, who apparently had a long list of minor marijuana offenses. The injured Reid lay on the ground and refused to speak to the cops. However, the cops were not finished with him and an officer then proceeded to beat Reid’s head with a metal baton. They then  handcuffed and shackled him. Reid complained that he couldn’t breathe but the cops did not listen, and when they finally decided to roll him onto his back, paramedics confirmed that he was dead. He was executed, despite having not committed a single crime.

The Coconut Creek Police Department first tried to cover up the killing claiming that the details of Reid’s death were confidential and that the public and press had no right to access this information. They later cited federal laws on confidentiality and healthcare to suggest that they could not confirm that Reid had died in their custody.

After two weeks, Coconut Creek Police Chief Michael Mann broke the silence about Reid’s death in a press conference. “Mr. Reid was observed to be in an agitated and combative and incoherent state. He had numerous cuts on his arms, hands and chest and his clothing was torn and bloodstained. As the officers approached Mr. Reid to offer him assistance, he became even more agitated. Given Mr. Reid’s appearance and behavior, the officers were unsure if they were dealing with a victim of a crime, the suspect of a crime or a potential Baker Act subject. Mr. Reid continued to escalate his violent behavior to the extent that Taser use became necessary for the officers’ safety as well as for Mr. Reid’s own safety,” said Mann adding, “There is no cover up”.
